Curtiss F-14C-2 Seahawk - VF-27, United States Navy, 1944

I thought I'd try an overall dark blue (midnight blue?) and I noted one VF-27 Hellcat profile showing a shark mouth so I used that again and added some Japanese kill markings (this pilot is obviously an ace) and some stencilled numbers. Also, the starbars are just white only because of the blue paint job. Next week, I'll try a Fleet Air Arm Seahawk or Sea Kittyhawk!

How did you get the wings to fold when it's a fixed wing model to start with?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

He didn't: the folded-wing aircraft are Seafires in USN markings.

Ah, so they are, I just glanced at the pic and saw what I thought.  :banghead:

A folded wing P-40 would be sweet though, and it could fold waaaay inboard with the undercarriage setup.

Probably true, but it wouldn't look as good.  ;D

Did the USN ever have an in-line, watercooled engined anything?

Not to my knowledge. Something about messing around with liquid coolant on board ships.

Some P-36s had 1200hp R-1830 engines which were only marginally less powerful than the V-1710s in early P-40s. It would be pretty simple to cut the gun fairings off a P-36 cowling and fit 6-gun P-40 wings to it. The fuselages are the same length (for early P-40s). Something else you could do is fit the P-40's spinner to the P-36.

That sounds like a good project! Just have to choose pre war colors or Curtis green and brown over grey?

Or go down the experimental camouflage route ?

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

That's vivid enough to qualify as high vis instead of camo!
