A couple of more shots;

I'll comeback to this and do a camo scheme at some time.

BTW I had this book for Christmas but have yet to get stuck into it.

Lockheed P-74A Charger - 432nd FS, 475th FG, United States Army Air Force, New Guinea, 1945

I was going out for a bike ride today but it was too bloomin' cold and windy so I decided to skin capun's 'slice and dice' 3D model based on Dizzyfugu's excellent model of his 'what if' P-74A Charger. I freakin' love it!

Lockheed P-74A Charger - 2 Squadron, Royal Dhimari Air Force, 1945

The 3D model has been made to incorporate specular mapping by capun (from the DAT site) meaning that areas that are meant to be shiny can be made really shiny and areas that are not meant to be shiny are toned down. Look at the shine on the last piccie and look at the anti-glare panel. Before specular mapping the anti-glare panel would also be shiny. I think the P-74A would be ideal for Dhimar in their war against Paran.

Thanks. Over the years I've done a few Ascenders and will come back to it again at some time.

Hawker Hunter T.65 - Fuerza Aérea Boliviana, 1962

Just a short photoset of the Hunter two-seater in service with the Bolivian Air Force.

SPINNERS

Hawker Hunter FGA.45 - Fighter squadron 311, Fuerza Aérea Boliviana, 1962

I thought I'd also do a single-seat Hunter for Bolivia with my preferred roundels in all six positions plus a coloured rudder (this is quite normal for the Bolivian Air Force) and a fictional squadron marking out of me own 'ed. The Hunter is the Omani FGA.73 3D model by Third Wire.

Northrop F-20A Tigershark - 16 Staffel, Swiss Air Force, 1992

Another new release from the SFP1 Dev A-Team is this 'beta' F-20 Tigershark that comes with the grey prototype scheme (actually, it could have been the second prototype?) which I have overpainted and added Swiss markings.

North American Mustang 1C - No.1 Squadron, Royal Air Force, 1942

I think I've shown an earlier Allison Mustang dressed up as an RAF night intruder before but I stumbled upon this P-51 armed with 4 x 20mm cannon at the beta section of the SFP1 Dev A-Team downloads section and adapted my earlier skin for it and re-used my decals. As it's a night intruder I wanted the screenshots to at least look like a moonlit night so used the film industry trick of shooting in daylight and adding a blue filter!

Nakajima Ki-77 'Lisa' - Imperial Japanese Army Air Force, 1944

This is the Junkers Ju-390 masquerading as the Nakajima Ki-77 Japanese bomber/transport. I've used the specular map to make a NMF skin but with some colourful fins, yellow wing leading edges, black engine cowlings and some distressed hinomaru and tailfin markings based on the logo of the Schwalbe bicycle tyre company!

SPINNERS

McDonnell F2H-4 Banshee - VF 870 Aggressor Flight, Royal Canadian Navy, 1959

This is quite an elderly 3D model and when I saw a regular VF 870 Banshee with those distinctive rudder markings I thought I'd give it an 'aggressor' splinter scheme including a fake canopy.

Junkers Ju-188D-2 - 13th Bomber Regiment, Parani Army Air Force, 1944

I fancied putting the Ju-188 into Parani service but didn't fancy doing an entirely new skin from scratch so left out the laborious lines and rivets and used my 'faux lines' cheat to give a bit of detail to what is, after all, a target! After doing the green skin I thought I'd do something more suitable for the desert and used a digital camo swatch and blurred it a bit and I think it worked quite well! At first, I thought the Ju-188D-2 variant was a night fighter but the radar antennae was for naval reconnaissance.

Bristol Bemmy Mk.I - No.12 Squadron, Royal Air Force, 1935

This is the Boeing-Stearman PT-17 trainer masquerading as the Boripatra light-bomber masquerading as the Bristol Bemmy light-bomber! The Boripatra was an indigenous light-bomber designed by the Royal Siamese Air Service's Aeronautical Workshops and the SFP1 Dev A-Team have modified a 3D model of the PT-17 Kaydet trainer to act as a stand-in for the Boripatra. In turn, I've turned their faux Boripatra into a fictional 1930's RAF light-bomber somewhere between the Fairey Fox and the Hawker Hart and based my dodgy DIY skin based on an illustration of a No.12 Squadron Fairey Fox found on the 'RAF Web' website. I believe that 'Bemmy' is the affectionate name for the Bedminster area of Bristol.

Quote from: daddyairplanes on March 28, 2026, 08:18:22 AMhello, checking in from the other site. we hadnt heard from you in a while, and with other recent health flare up got somewhat concerned...

Oh, I'm absolutely fine. Like most retired people I wonder how I used to hold down a job and fit in hobbies. I've moved towards to a more active hobby (cycling) and lost a whopping 22kg last year. I meet up twice a week with similar retirees for social rides and also ride with younger riders on faster training rides on the weekend. I'm fitter now at 64 than I was at 34! Anyway, DA hope you are well.

Aermacchi MB-326GB - Royal Moroccan Air Force, 2003

I've looked at the MB-326 before to make an RAF version in 1970's camo (as the Aermacchi Magister T.1A) but for this Moroccan version I made an oddball camo using a recently found 'digital' camo which I was able to blur to make it look less contemporary and I quickly give it some faux lines to give it some detail.

That looks really good in that camo scheme
