Unknown!#3 from Justo Miranda has some work-ups on the evolution from P-47 to P-84.  There are some good drawings, too.  I've been tempted to try my hand at one of these intermediate steps, or a variation thereof, using an inexpensive straight-wing F-84 kit and a P-47N kit as I notice that they both have the same root chord.

Pretty close, at least for one version.  As I remember, weight and balance issues forced the relocation of the guns to the nose and using the wings just as fuel tanks.  ISTR that the earlier versions had a farther aft cockpit.  It's still an aircraft I intend to do as time permits.
