From what I can gather on Britmodeler, between Airfix and MA, there's going to be a lot of choice for the Nimrod builder.
MA?

QuoteThere's a lot of names for them - and very few are pleasant.

A what if sheet for the Avro Arrow might prove a tad more successful. RCAF, RAF, USAF, perhaps RAAF as well.

Squadron markings, not special anniversary schemes or the like please.
Life's too short to apply all the stencils

QuoteA decent kit of the Arrow to apply them to would be a start...

As for Model Alliance, or whatever they're calling themselves this week, it's usually a response to their prices, something along the lines of "The robbing ****s (insert expletive as applicable)!!!!!!!

I mean, £8 for their 72nd Tempest sheet with a very generous 4 aircraft?  They're not getting another penny out of me.
I don't normally get involved in this type of "conversation" but I do agree with The Wookster on this one. The Tempest sheet was apalling value. I didn't buy it and then the option I wanted (Palestine in that grey/brown camo) came out on another sheet by a very small cottage manufacturer with another 5 options inc. a wonderfull post war Far East Beaufighter
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

QuoteYou didn't mention which options/subjects you would feature on a decal sheet. Although honestly as I am only buying 1 Nimrod I will be building it in a standard in service scheme from Gulf War 1 if the in box decals provide this option. If not I have more than enough spare decals to build my "own" GW version.
Back on-topic, the man makes a very valid point.  If you were to rustle up a few profiles, post em here, Britmodeller, MUG, ATF etc you could gauge intrest in them.

Maybe even have some profiles on display on the SIG table at the nats?

Quote(that said, I also have a picture of a black Nimrod somewhere.........)

Taken on a cloudy night during a powercut  . :D

However knowing Dave i expect its probably true, it could of course be just a Black undercoat spotted during a respray  (Like the VC-10  recently that had to tranfer during respray to find a bigger hanger !!!!)

Ok, my tongue was in my cheek, but it is almost black....

Interesting (in the light of recent events) to note a bomb bay fire

As for the Comet, that was XM823 (now at Cosford) when it was used by De Havilland for missile seeker trials

Having seen the evolution of the Aviation Workshop sheets, they are both comprehensive and accurate. It's no big secret who designed both them, and he has done a superb job in hunting down the obscure and unusual.

As for value, well there seems to be 6 or 7 options on each sheet so I suspect many will be shared between more than one modeller - can't see too many people building 20 Nimrods!

Don't know, on the other hand how much they will be charging - anyone seen any prices?

As for WHIF decals, I'd imagine a much smaller market than for the TSR2 - it's the WHIF icon, people had been thinking how they would whif it for 40 years.

However, here's my suggestions!

Royal Canadian Air Force - with 50th anniversary of D-Day stripes
Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (that lovely blue scheme)
"Chilean" Navy (RAF R1 during the Falklands War)
Royal Saudi Navy (with big recognition patches to avoid confusion with the Iranian ones)
RNZAF
Royal Dutch Navy (EDSG & Sky)
