But can you imagine how busy that part of the country would be in summer if the weather could be relied upon not to rain ? You wouldn't be able to move  ;)

When I'm in Newcastle I quite often take the train over to Carlisle. Lovely trip in the right weather and Carlisle is an interesting place.

SWMBO and I are off to Carlisle for a couple of days at the end of next week - any recommendations on what to see?

If you are driving you could do worse than to visit the village of Wreay, a few miles south of Carlisle. The church is unique and was designed by a remarkable woman, Sarah Losh, who rebuilt a lot of the village. http://www.stmaryswreay.org/sarah-losh-heritage-centre/

A drive along the Solway coast is worth it for the beautiful views and some history - Hadrians Wall and the memorial to King Edward I who died at Burgh By Sands.

Tullie House Museum in Carlisle is good, I spent a whole afternoon in there. On the same street is a very good second hand bookshop called Bookcase. Not only do they have an excellent range of tomes to peruse, the building was the Head Office of the Carlisle State Brewery and all up the stairs are history boards.

Thanks for all the info on Carlisle - we are going up by train from Euston, so will be restricted to shank's pony alot of the time. BTW Sally-B just flew over again, so low I could almost count the rivets ;D

GCHQ has got some new twin prop plane I don't recognise...droning around overhead again. Having got bored listening in to our mobile phones they can now tap into Wi-Fi. Maybe I should access some extreme naughtiness to give the guys/gals up there a thrill

I've seen a King Air droning around over Gloucester in recent weeks, and it only seems to take-off and land at Staverton at the end of each day. I wonder if they can be flight refuelled?  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

Looks a bit like that but without the t-tail. I don't mind 'cos the engines make less background hum...the Islanders really drove me nuts at night once your ears had tuned in  :banghead:

I was at the Jimmy Buffett concert in Chicago Saturday night. It was an outdoor event at Wrigley Field. I got to watch all the airliners inbound to O'Hare IAP.

3 police helicopter personnel are currently on trial in Sheffield for film people sunbathing nude in their gardens and another couple enjoying a"frolic" in their garden.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Just watched that ;D. On seriously hot nights I've had a cold shower and stood starkers in the garden to cool down. I'll be watching that helicopter next time....

Heading GCHQ'wards around lunchtime was an ex-RAF Merlin HC3, now flown by the FAA.

I was at my model railway club, which is around 5-6 miles from GCHQ and we quite often see small choppers, like Jet Rangers and Squirrels heading that way, but rarely anything as a big as a Merlin. Those BERP rotor tips are really visible, like a dark ring around the rotor disc.

This weekend four warbirds will be at the Kankakee county airport including Fifi! You know where I will be!
Only $1400 for a ride in the bombardier seat!!!!!! (No, I will not be there! Just on the outside taking pics and hoping to see a take off and landing.)

Three Yellow Tailed Black Cockys.
Noisy buggers but not as bad as the Sulphur Crested Cockys or the Corellas (mainly because they have a lower pitched squawk and hang out in much smaller groups - Corellas mostly fly over us at dusk or dawn in huge flocks).
Flew off when I raised the camera so not my pic.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

A white, blue and gold Jet Ranger cruising around Lydney at a low altitude, but he didn't land and eventually rumbled off toward the Bridges.

No doubt some over rich 'developer' looking for sites to build more warehouses.....

On Tuesday, I saw this pull right up beside where I was stationed on the ramp at YYC, it was about 25-30 feet away from me.

http://www.martinsammodels.com/Webpage/Pages/Real%20Aviation/aircraft/aircraft/BAE/146/First%20Air/C-FERJ/Pictures/001.jpg

Then, a little later in the day another BAe 146 taxied by on the other side of the apron.

Today, I saw this one.

So three airlines are now using the BAe 146.

(These are not my photos although I did take some but noway to post them here [ and no, I'm not going to another 3rd party hosting site])
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Good to see 146s alive and well out there, they're pretty much extinct in the UK these days.
