That'd be nice.  Brighten up the place.  They look great flitting through the trees.

They certainly do that. Always fly around mob handed and the noise they make  :o They obviously had a good winter as there's a fair few more of them than last year.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Just had a MiG-15 fly over the house - the two seater is based at Duxford for the summer season, so he's obviously off somewhere for a display

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

A B-52 was flying over the Severn waaaaaay down south of me early this morning, presumably eastbound into RAF Fairford. One of my buddies saw a B-1 y'day afternoon too, both part of the USAF's 'strategic deployment' there this last week no doubt.

Friday afternoon, about 4pm while I was cutting the grass in the front garden. Walked through the house with the extension lead and as I stepped out of the back door I heard that sweet whispering purr followed by that familiar deep growl of a Merlin engine...

Spitfire directly over my house!

She was out of North Weald and I assume heading for a show somewhere. Quite possibly PL965 of the Hangar 11 Collection http://www.hangar11.co.uk/spitfire.html

The best, and maybe only, PRXI flying anywhere. She even has her original engine installed now.

Got to see my first Cormorant today, it flew right over me where I was station and landed on the apron near me. Pics later.
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Now that is worthy of notice - it must be verging on the unique!
There again, with the lack of Merlins to choose from, I suppose it's bound to happen sooner or later?

But how much would really be original other than the block and non wearing items like the valve covers?

It's the 'original' engine in that it has the same IDs as it had when it was built.

Peter Teischman (sp?), who owns PL965, was looking for a proper Merlin 60 to replace the aircraft's then Merlin 40 and one came up somewhere in California. To their amazement it was the 'original' one, presumably block casting etc., but what else would he have done but snaffle it right away?
