A few from work the other day.....

Old School 747 freighter.

The cold holds the contrails for ever......

Don't you hate it when an Airbus gets between the boom and your sheave wheel ?

Spotted a C-17 as well. Everybody laughs at me when I point out the differences in aeroplanes and contrail patterns....

I used to be able to tell if it was a C-5 by the sound but now everybody is using turbofans so they all sound too much alike.

Hehehe, I know JUST what you mean.

I used to drive them nuts at work when I was in my office by dashing outside to see what was flying o'head as we were right under the main westbound airway from Heathrow. Trying to explain that a 747 made a '4 into 2' contrail whereas an Airbus A340 made a '4 stripe' trail drove them crazy.

If I remember rightly a DC10's trail goes '3 into 2 to the left' a a Tri-Star goes '3 into 2 to the right' as well.  ;D

I really wish they'd 'militarize' the markings tho.....they used to look so cool now they look like they are slapped on in a half-thought manner.....

So yer saying the DC-10 dressed left and the L-1011 dressed right?  ;)

Captain Canada

Notice the way one contrail appears to pull to the left in the C-17 pic ?

Hehehe, could be right, but I wonder if RB-211s rotate one way and CF6s  the other. Maybe something to do with us Brits driving on the other side of the road to the Colonies maybe?  ;D

You can't tell a GE engined DC10-30 from a P&W engined -40 from 30000 ft below so I can't say if their trails went one way or the other.

I really am being spoilt right now. I've moved desks in the office and am now looking out over the car park..........and The Red Arrows practise (practice?) in that directions. So, I have regualr loops and bomb bursts to view and now and again a Typhoon. When I got back to the hotel last week it was a lovely spring evening. Made better by a low pass by an AWACS. Lots of stuff around in Lincolnshire.
If this is Upper Silesia, one can only wonder what Lower Silesia is like.

You're not staying in the Premier Inn just south of Lincoln are you? When I stayed there they could never understand why I always wanted a room on the south side of the hotel, but it's because it has a grand view of the final appproach to the 20 runway at Waddington.  ;D

Can I bore you guys with another C130 pic?

Taken yesterday when I was out trying to photograph some local wildlife, it came in low and doing a turn to position itself for landing at the Air Base:

I didn't crop this pic, by the way 8)

Surprised there's any wildlife around with one of them flying that low...
