Our coach got pulled over at Dover (1st Sept) by the Obergruppenfuhrer unemployables, and whilst admiring the many things we can do with concrete and seagull **it, a B-25 went streaking over at a pretty low level, heading I would guess in the direction of Holland or Belgium. Cheered me up no end. A very beautiful machine .

For the THIRD time I've seen that Allouette III trundling across in a south easterly direction. It never seems to come back though, either that or someone is building the darn things in Central Wales and exporting them back to France......

I'm guessing that refers to the lovely chaps of Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, searching for contraband and/or the dreaded French invading via the baggage compartments of Librarian's bus...

Well, at least they weren't expecting the Spanish Inquisition

Michael Palin was, sadly, not on the bus. Should I apologise? No! We were stopped by both Spanish and French customs who were friendly, courteous and almost apologetic. They looked fit, healthy and spoke excellent English. Got to Dover and I'm sure you know where I'm going with this....I was ashamed. Sunday, 19.30, no vending machines, restaurant etc, dumped on a concrete stand for two hours with no explanations etc for two ****ing hours whilst "THEY" took the coach apart. Some passengers with young children had left the baby-gear aboard so nappies couldn't be changed, bottles prepared etc. I'm still livid :banghead:.

I would be too.  And I've had similar experiences with TSA, simply because I forgot that I had my RF-blocking passport wallet in the back pocket of my pants.  Especially after showing them my military ID as proof of ID

The problem is that HMRC think they are God, and with the way the laws here are currently written, they ARE!  :o

As Sir Humphrey once suggested, HMG agencies must always be on guard against the "traditional enemy" on the otherside of the Channel.   How he must be turning in his grave at the thought of the Channel Tunnel having been opened!  ;D

Never ever mess with HMRC, just say "thank you" at every opportunity. They have more power then virtually any other Govt Dept/organisation
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Oooooh yes. I have learnt my lesson. I still wince when I see a pair of Marigolds (rubber gloves) ;D.

Pair of Selfridge ANG A-10s. Always nice to see.
