Taken with 500 mm lens at about 1/1000 sec and F3.5, and LOTS of luck!  ;D

f/3.5 at 500mm??? Serious money, and serious muscle to lift it!

I've seen an airship drifting in daylight, if that's comparable.  I've also seen it at relatively low altitude at nigh cruising along the sea front on a hot summer's evening, with its (then) new electric display flashing advertising images across the envelope.   Reminded me forcibly of the movie Blade Runner.   Both were Skyship 500s, not Goodyear non-rigid airships.

I borrowed it specially for the race from a motor-sport photog friend.  ;D

And THEN I went and bought a hefty tripod, the ruddy thing weighed a ton!

No chance of anything at all today! Thick  nimbo-stratus cloud at 300 feet, continuous rain, heavy at times and my next door neighbours are having repair  work done on their drive, which involves a pneumatic concrete chisel mounted on the back of a tractor.  They are most apologetic about the noise, and assure me that it won't go on after lunch time.

A full wing of Vulcans could aviate over at 1000 feet and I probably wouldn't see or hear a thing!!

Definitely a "Must-have" for long shots . . . I'm saving for a heavy duty one to go with the 600 mm lens I just ordered . . .

Cheating Slightly as these are not quite seen over my house today, but seen in locations since my last visit

I went to explore the old Vickers testing airfield at Wisely in Surrey,UK.

And caught an Emirates A380 outbound to exotic lands?

And at the other end of the spectrum, some tiny - but against nice clouds

and stretching further.... there were a couple of ships in town to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic last weekend.

I thought that I would spare you the photos of the hardstanding areas and the tarmac runway!?

'Eddinburgh's' about to de-commision for the last time according to 'Ships Monthly'. You were lucky to see her as she's the last of her class in commission IIRC.

That photo of Illustrious makes you realise how big the Merlin is
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Spey_Phantom

lately, there have been a lot of movements over my house.

earlier this week we had Belgian C-130H's and British AAC Apache's allong with an RAF Chinook.

Cracking shot of Lusty there. She was in the bay here (Weymouth) very briefly on Thursday evening. Came tearing in and headed out to sea again in about five minutes, with a Type 23 in tow. No camera unfortunately, she was away and over the horizon before I could get home to get it!

That Allouette II that I saw on the 2nd came by again, just as fast, just as low and just as loud too. And I STILL couldn't get to the door in time to photograph it!  :banghead:

I think I'll keep the camera primed and ready on the windowsill when it's fine and sunny in future.....

Even more so, as it was late afternoon and we were just about to head down the foot tunnel under the Thames. Sll of a sudden as there was a bit of commotion and rush of people to the shore line and there she was steaming past!  I hadn't been lucky enough this time to get on board the 'lusty' open day, though last year HMS Liverpool did come to Canary Wharf last year as part of her farewell tour and was able to get on board that time.

Does anyone know what that scaffolding structure in the background is? (Just to the left of Edinburgh's rear 909 radar) I've seen that a couple of times passing through London, never figured it out.
