This is getting boring! ANOTHER  A400M, low enough  this time for me to clearly read that it was  ZM 420

Whilst cycling into work this morning I was strafed by saw a low (100 ft ish) flying inline piston engined (i'm not good enough to tell a merlin by sound alone) low wing monoplane over Mornington.  Horizontal stabs were half way up the rudder and it had a pointed nose with no chin or under fuselage radiator.
I didn't see the shape of the wings but i'm thinking Spitfire.  Possibly.
AFAIK there are no Spits permanently living at Tyabb but there is a big warbird presence there and it could have been a visitor.

I dodged behind a tree and it was distracted by all the German SUVs.

A Spitfire's tailplanes are mid-fuselage height, not half way up the fin. I'm struggling to think of a piston engined aircraft that has such a tail.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

That's what I meant.  Half way up the distance from the bottom of the fuselage to the top of the fin.  ie not at the bottom or a T tail.
Half way up the rudder if you like.
Approximately, and from a fleeting glance as it flew away from me and disappeared behind some houses.
And it was yesterday at 11:45.  I drove in today.

If it had twin under wing radiators it sounds like it could have been a Spitfire in that case.

Early Spitfires only had one radiator on the starboard side, and a small tubular oil cooler under the port wing, but those early ones are pretty thin on the ground.

Oh, and in the air too of course.  ;D

I do know what Spitfires look like Kit.  I didn't get a good enough view to be sure though.

The darn things are always going somewhere too, and won't hang around for us to make a positive ID, ratbags.

Yesterday over West Worthing beach heading east.  Nothing seen on FlightRadar24 so couldn't identify which Spitfire it was but it turned inland shortly after, appeared to route just to the north of Goring and Ferring and then head off west, perhaps to Goodwood.  There's a pair based there so probably one of those.
