Victoria Police chopper went over in the dark again last night.  Should I be worrying?

Only if they drop in for a visit...   :banghead:

I suspect they go over so often because I have one of the major routes down the Mornington Peninsula at the bottom of my yard.

At least i keep telling myself that...

Some BFO military transport circled a few times over my house yesterday - four engined and T tail.  I'd guess at either a C17 or that new Airbus monstrosity.

Yes, the C-17 and the Airbus A-400M are pretty difficult to tell apart, even though the 'bus has props.

Since the Met Police moved to North Weald we get their helicopters going over every day, sometimes several times a day. They do make an effort to avoid going directly over town but occasionally as they did today they go right overhead. It's a proper wake up call!  ;D

That's interesting, I wonder if that had anything to do with Air-Britain moving their Fly-In from North Weald.

Driving along a back-road near Leominster, we stopped to photograph a red kite circling about 20 feet above us. Then the peace was shattered by a Hercules so low that its prop-wash moved the branches on the trees on the hill beside us.  Not quite sure how high that was above us, but it seemed like 100 feet or less.

A major issue for airshows and large fly-in events at North Weald was the growing popularity of Stansted Airport. They need the skies clear for all those cheap flights to Dublin and Prague and Berlin etc. I can't really complain as I have flown out of Stansted a few times.

Met Police share their corner of NW with the Herts and Essex Air Ambulance so we get them going over a fair bit too.

An RAF Puma came batting up the Severn at max throttle this afternoon, about 1/4 mile out from my front door.

I suspect it was heading for Rheged land....

RAF BAe 146 buzzing about today.

Yesterday had a number of Beech King Airs.  Two RAF aircraft (thought it was one coming back but FlightRadar24 showed a second).  Then two private King Airs flying together.

Last week had a couple of Typhoons come over.

This morning, a Hercules heading west at "not very high at all" and later a couple of Pumas going the same way at a considerable rate of knots and  low enough for any annoyed local to have successfully given them both barrels of their 12-bore.

The way to tell them apart is the sound.  The A400M sounds weird.  Those 8 sets of contraprops give off an odd warbling quality.  See them fairly often around here, makes my head feel strange....

Nothing too exciting: Finnish Air Force C295 and Learjet, and what sounded like a Pilatus PC-12, earlier today. The sound of a Cessna or Piper, or something now.

I took a look at the tracking sites yesterday, and saw a RAF A400 approaching Helsinki. It lined up as for landing, but pulled up over the runway. Then it climbed back to cruising altitude and headed back towards the Baltic Countries and presumably its starting point in Germany???

Doesn't work if you're driving a car and one hoves into view. I've seen a lot of both types while trucking along the A40 nr Brize, and it's especially difficult to tell them from the rear. You just can't see the props, and the T tail is almost identical from that view.

It puts me in mind of the old MoD Recognition Journals that were around in the 60s, those two would make an ideal pairing for one of their quizzes.

Yeah, I KNOW the mag had 'Restricted' printed all over the place, but I knew the right people.  ;) ;D
