No, it's "obviously" a Stratofreighter.

Watched this morning an RAAF C-130J flying between the shore and Rotnest Island here in Perth, throwing out SASR troopers doing their annual waterjump qualifiers.   Half a dozen semi-rigid inflatables bobbing around on the surface to pick them up as well.   Happens about this time, every year.  Next week they'll do night jumps as well.

A flying boat would have been cool to see ! Kermit flew his Sunderland over Sarnia all those years ago, on his return trip to FLA with it. I missed it tho......

Truth be told, seeing these Hercs was pretty exciting, it was so windy, and the sound of them was incredible, thought it was somat bigger by the sound !

Not over my house but whilst driving around the northern suburbs of Adelaide for work on Thursday watched a pair of Orions doing bump'n'jumps at RAAF Edinburgh for about 4 hours. Flew right over me a few times.

A dark helicopter flew over yesterday. My wife said it was military, and big. My son said it was a Dolphin. Jury out on that one.

Then a jet flew over, low and loud. I was indoors and missed it, bur a friend called and asked if I saw it. He said it looked like an F-111 so the jury is out on that one as well !

I drove past the airport to have a sniff but alas nothing was about.

I don't think so. He's enough of an aviation enthusiast to know that an F-111 is an Aardvark, but maybe not so talented as a spotter.

I love the F-111.. one of my favs so I think my info is correct in that the Aussies were the last to operate them and they put them out to pasture some odd years back (not too far back, though)then went to Hornets. We haven't used ours in decades in the U.S.

I'd say it's safe to say it wasn't an Aardvark. Unless......... private owner?!    ;D

I doubt it. I don't think there are any. My guess is a Falcon biz jet, 3 engines loud and with that wing sweep and the engines and tail feathers it could give the appearance. Just a guess but I've been fooled by those types turning off in the distance.

This is what happened to almost all of the Australian F-111s. I understand that only a couple went to museums.

And these were still around in 2009 at Davis-Monthan boneyard

F-111C/G:

Quote11 F-111Cs were retained as heritage assets. Five will be placed on display at RAAF bases.

    A8-125, RAAF Museum
A8-126, Aviation Heritage Centre, RAAF Base Amberley
    A8-132, RAAF Base Edinburgh
A8-138, RAAF Base Amberley, to become a gate guard
    A8-142, RAAF Base Wagga

On 4 October 2012, six more cosmetically restored and repainted aircraft were unveiled at RAAF Base Amberley for display at private aviation museums.[93] Ownership is retained by the Australian government and aircraft undergo continual maintenance and non-destructive testing. They were loaned to:

Australian Aviation Heritage Centre Northern Territory Darwin, Northern Territory[94]
Evans Head Memorial Aerodrome Heritage Aviation Association, Evans Head, New South Wales
    A8-148 – Fighter World, RAAF Base Williamtown.[95]
A8-109 - Historical Aircraft Restoration Society, Illawarra Regional Airport
    Queensland Air Museum, Caloundra Airport
    South Australian Aviation Museum

The Australian Flying Corps and Royal Australian Air Force Association would also receive a crew module of A8-131. The crew modules of A8-135, A8-136 and A8-137 are also held at the Aviation Heritage Centre, RAAF Base Amberley.

A8-130 was put on display at the Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor in September 2013

I was lured outside by the sound of a "TV sound effect" helicopter (i.e. one with a two bladed rotor making the wokka wokka sound TV has taught us all helicopters make).
When it appeared from behind a tree I found it was not the expected Huey but a Robinson R22 or R44.  Flying low so prolly a joy flight rather than someone going from A to B or having lessons.
As usual with flyovers it came from the direction of Tyabb International Aerodrome SE of us.
