I don't know about jumping from that particular DC-3, but there were at least three Daks slinging out numerous paratroopers over Normandy that day, and all of them using WWII pattern circular 'chutes too. That must have been a salutary lesson in aerodynamics!

Didn't see it, but heard it ! About 5 this morning a very, very loud helicopter flying overhead woke me up. Flying somewhere fast that's for sure. Don't think it was PC Plod, didn't sound like it anyway

Yea, but it might have been something taking a short cut to Biggin or Kenley although I didn't think they were allowed to do that

On the other hand we do have one of those "secret" underground bunkers built in the 60's where the local government was supposed to be based during a nuclear conflict a few hundred yards up the road.

I say secret but every body new it was there and I just wonder who the heck they were going to govern after said conflict ended ? It's many passage ways and sub bunkers are now causing serious problems for the foundations of some houses built on top of them in the 70's.

Maybe that one was a blind and the real one is in the woods ?

Yesterday  at 6;00 pm ish,  a genuine B2, black and low enough to clearly see  the markings through binoculars  (say 2000 feet) heading south east at about 350 knots.   The place I'm staying in whilst our new home in Herefordshire is having work done is about 10 miles east of Hereford.  I assume that it was heading for a long runway in Gloucestershire........but I might be wrong.   Hopefully this is the last time I'll have to use Leominster library public access PC.  I'm told our broadband should be connected by Monday.

Yes, that thing cruised over away to the north of me. First time I've seen one flying too. For sure it'd have been headed to Fairford, they have two B52-Hs there on TDY already.

Rheged, one of those B-2s had an RAF Tornado pilot...  :tornado:

He'll have had no problem finding Fairford then. Over the M5 to Cheltenham, turn right on the A46 till he gets to the A419 and follow it dwn till Fairford comes up on the left. He wont need to worry about any GATSOs 'cos they won't even notice he's gone past.  ;D

Shades of the opening of the Olympic opening ceremony

Story goes that Princes William and Harry looked up at the para-drop in Normandy and asked the assembled heads of state around them "Can you see which one is Granny?"

Added later;  a local retired Hereford Cowboy I met in the post office told me"  They are presumably ready to bomb MOSUL, but given the USAF, they'll probably bomb **Mousehole**......."

ho hum! well it made me laugh a bit.  ;D btw, i believe that there has been an exchange crew arrangement for
couple of tornado pilots to go and fly B2's for some years now. the last time combat aircraft monthly featured
the B2 in any great detail, [which was a couple of years back] the then RAF crew were featured in the article.

nothing flying of interest of late in the coventry area, though yesterday afternoon a B737NG did do a very sprited
take off over my place. NOISY!

Imagine how bad it would have been if they still allowed 737-200s to be fly? OUCH!

Captain Canada

I love the old turbojet sounds. It's pretty awesome to be in Al;berta in the dead of winter and listen ( and see ! ) them take off. Probably like being at a fighter base in the 60s !

You don't see many (if any) of the old -200's around here anymore Todd  --- Yellowknife -- well different story up there.  They're all being used in the freighter/passenger role now.
