Shooters hill cemetery

Ideal spot - could provide an all in one service  ;D

I have no idea what their problem is. The missiles wouldn't be shooting at THEM anyway, they'd be shooting at aircraft some distance away that just MAY be intending to use them as a target!

Some people have a zero thought process capability............ <sigh>
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Problem is kit, if hit the aircraft will fall to earth somewhere  :-\ Don't get me wrong I think we need to be prepared in this crazy old world of ours but it is a double edged sword.

Bit like all that AAA in WWII London. You just have to look at all the scars on a lot of London buildings. Some are bomb damage, some shrapnel. My dad always reckoned he was in more danger coming home on leave in 1940/41 then he was at sea, and that was just from the AAA

Thats the Long Range Snipers (Royal Artillery) for you.
I always hope for the best.

God I love the sound of those engines

It is true what they say:

Radials growl,
Inlines purr,
Jets suck!

I dunno - I'm rather fond of the racket from an Avon (or even better, two Avons). ;D

I've only ever seen the side-by-side variety, unfortunately. I was three when the Frightenings were retired! Must make it up to Bruntingthorpe to see a fast taxi run one day...

There's a wonderfull story of an old WWI vintage 3" truck mounted AA gun that used to drive around S London and stop off at each public shelter, let of 3 rounds and drive to the next one. All to aid morale. Apparently one night to everyones suprise it actually hit a raider. The crew didn't have to buy beer for weeks, although  doubt they were capable of hitting anything else for weeks either  :drink:

Talk about make me feel old  :banghead: They were an amazing sight and sound. Count myself lucky I'm old enough to remember air shows when the there were still loads of types flying and on the ground.

I can remember as a youth sitting at the end of the runway at Leuchars---there was a parking place off the main road there, and listening to the "Avon music" for some time.  A couple of F6s made a very low level pass over us and then went vertical...........WONDERFUL!!!!

On my first honeymoon, the one I spent with Mrs PR19's predecessor, we spent the two weeks on a boat on the Norfolk Broads. Conveniently the middle weekend co-incided with the Battle of Britain Display at RAF Colltishall where 74 Sqdn was flying its F1 and F1As. Naturally I ensured that we moored at Coltishall Green that Friday night and we went to the BoB display on the local bus............  ;D

74 did TWO full squadron take-offs during the day, one in a gentlemanly fashion, going one by one, and one a full-on QRA event. The latter was done two by two and every pair rotated to the vertical as soon as their wheels were off the ground and blasted Lightning shaped holes in the clouds!!  :o

By the time they'd all launched no-one within a few miles could hear a thing!

From the Lake District last month, a C-130 Hercules that went straight overhead to the delight of me and the people I was chatting to!

Defender... Just a bit out of focus! Rush shot and the camera refused to even try for autofocus. :banghead:

There's a lot (and I mean a LOT) of helicopters over London this week, we've seen Chinook, Puma, Merlin, Lynx and Apache go over Westminster lately. It's interesting to note the difference between the old Army Lynx that lands in Wellington Barracks and the new Navy Lynx that is obviously from HMS Ocean in the Docklands. The Navy has a large camera setup on the nose, probably what you need for spotting baddies from a height!

Since when has HMS Ocean had torpedoes fitted?   http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/near-miss-as-hms-ocean-squeezes-through-thames-barrier-7715349.html
Does look to be a tight squeeze through there though!

I'm sure Ocean can carry torps, though firing them would be another matter. But then that's what the Lynx (or Merlin) is for.

Coming back through the Lake District from a  trip to Barrow in Furness,  a Hercules at about 400 feet over Derwentwater .  It dropped lower (250 feet?) over BassenthwaiteLake and then aviated off in the general direction of West Freugh
