Saw 5 AH-64 Apaches followed by a CH-47 Chinook today at work, Parkersburg WV. Rarely see Apaches in this area, really cool!

The Lake District tourist season has started..........an RAF   yellow Sea King AND  the air ambulance  in the space of an hour.    A nurse who works in A & E   and lives up the road from me tells me that the "Lemming Season"   has begun.

and 2 minutes after I started this entry.......an RN  Sea Keing.   Oh, th joys of living close to the Cumberland Infirmaryhelipad

Still got a couple of months before Lemming Season hits the Jersey Shore.  Usually starts Memorial Day weekend, and oh the traffic back ups southbound on Friday Nights and northbound Sunday nights make you want to go "Why"?

Yeah, same thing over here in Delaware.  I live just off DE rt. 9, sort of a "Bypass" around Dover if you don't want to pay the toll on DE Rt.1.

At least one bad accident less than a mile from my place every evening, May through October.  At least I get to see some different Medevac choppers.

Dunno what is going on but I was just woken in the middle of the night (at about 0215 hrs) by a flight of what I suspect are Blackhawks.   I wonder what the SASR are up to (their barracks is about 15 km down the coast) and that was the direction they were headed.   I had some work to do anyway on my PC which is why I am testing connectivity at this time.

One for Nils, a Royal Navy Sea King that was buzzing around over the beach a few weeks back. Only just got round to processing some of the RAWs I have piling up...

Also got a nice shot of the ANZAC war memorial on the seafront:

Must admit Weymouth is one of my favourite seaside places, gorgeous beach and some decent pubs

You, me and Mrs PR19 are on the same wavelength there Chris. An interesting harbour, amazing scenery within a few miles, an excellent class of B&B and a railway right along the harbour side, even  if it doesn't run any more.

Thanks peeps. Weymouth was practically tropical when I took that, in that weird mini-summer we had a few weeks back. It's been very different the last few days!

Add me to the list of Weymouth likers as well. It always brings back memories of my sumer camps at H.M .S Osprey when I was a cadet....

There's little memorials all over the UK like that, most obviously for our "own lads" but quite a few for Commonwealth & Empire troops plus US, Free French etc. They are very easy to miss and the locals are so used to them they don't really notice them any more.

My favourite is in the Royal Pavilion in Brighton (The Prince Regent's outlandish Eastern Palace) it has a memorial to the Indian troops who fought on the Western Front in WWI. Apparently it was used as a convalescent centre for them. The powers to be thought it would make them feel at home  ;D

I have had tea with the Mayor of Brighton in the Pavilon.

Seen over central London at 5pm tonight, a Belgian Sea King. Cunningly camouflaged with a red nose!

As I drive along UK roads I often stop and look at roadside memorials. There's several more I walk past up on the mountains. Most times they refer to a crashed bomber or transport and so many times the crew are aged 18-25 and from Canada, Australia or New Zealand or the USA.
An interesting one is at Norman Cross just off the A1, the main London-Edinburgh road. It's a Napoleonic Eagle on a pillar, commemorating all the French and Dutch POWs who died in the camp there between 1796-1814.

Regarding the Indian forces in Brighton, they were permitted to carry out the only open air cremations in the UK. The Royal Pavilion was used as a wartime hospital and sadly several men died there of their wounds. The Muslims were buried near Woking Mosque and the Hindus and Sikhs asked for permission to carry out their traditional funeral methods up on the South Downs. This is still illegal but the authorities turned a blind eye to the large ceremony during which 50+ soldiers were cremated on a large funeral pyre.
