There are altitude restrictions above the Grand Canyon. That aircraft is much higher than you might think...above 10,000 feet would be my guess

It was probably coming in for a landing at the Grand Canyon airport and it was definitely flying much slower than we were. I think I have a picture where you can see its shadow on the ground; I may even be able to get a rough altitude from that and the time.

Not quite over my house, but only about three miles south . . .

. . . And was on my way home about 6 months ago.

Inbound to Dover AFB.

I've said here before that TLH was a boring airport.  Come to find out, I was just living on the wrong end of it.  My current location sits just outside the northwest boundary of the airport, and the spotting is awesome.  Most of the traffic out of the airport is commercial or GA;  I've seen lots of DC-9/MD-80s, assorted regional jets and lots of Pipers and Cessnas, but I've also seen a lot of the following:

T-6 Texan II
T-38
T-45
Robinson R-22/R-44 (there's a school at the airport)

I've also seen an Avanti fly out of there a couple of times a week, and a Coast Guard HC-144.

I just wish I had a camera...

Went for a familiarization in a Piper Sport on Saturday, and saw some Citabrias and Cessna 162s below me!

I'm not sure I believe what I've just seen but..........

Heading up the River Severn I'm pretty sure I've just seen what seemed to be three Hinds Ds!!!

The cloudbase is pretty low, maybe 700 ft and they were just below it so it was difficult to ID them accurately but I can't think what else they could be. 5 bladed main rotors from the sound, trike landing gear, longish nose and a tail rotor on a kicked-up extension.

Definitely not Pumas, they weren't fat enough, what else could they have been?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Considering your location Kit, your description could match the new AW139M or the AW149

Been 'plagued' with helos aswell this week. Two Lynx and two Sea King/Commandos arrived at Altcar on Monday - unusually not accompanied by any Chinooks this time. Been flying three or four sorties a day up to 2000 at night.

Rumours abound... training for Syria, Iran or next summers' riots

Out at the CLAWR today we were treated to a full on dogfight.....a pair of CF-188's went at it for about 6 minutes, looping and rolling and stalling and diving.....it was pretty wild to watch. Hard to believe the thrust these birds have in that cold air.

Well, it WAS over the house, just by a hundred+ miles or so ;-)  The USAF's X-37B/OTV-2 made an appearance tonight, while its up there...doing things LOL. Light pollution (worse this time of year with all the extra lighting) made for a poor pic, but was very easily visible to the naked eye.

OK, so how did you KNOW it was going to be there so you could take piccies of it?  :o

I use the www.heavens-above.com site for pass predictions - there are others out there, but I like that one, as it displays the bearing/elevation data for each pass in a very useable format, for me at least.

Niagara Falls ANG Herc at Stephenville airport. Always nice to see USAF birds at the old base. She's all decked out with DIRCM so I'm guessing she's heading to Afghanistan.

Lake District, November 2012 2011. Driving south to Grasmere and Ambleside down the long narrow Thirlmere valley I spotted a light in the sky above the main road. It turned out to be this, hovering just 100ft above the road itself...

Just slightly breaching the low flying regulations I suspect......

Or was it searching for speed cameras perhaps???  ;D
