It's 1625(ish) here in the Democratic Peoples Republic of Meseyside, the tide is about 45 minutes from it's lowest point and we've just watched a pair of Chinooks fly up the river to a point around a mile northwest of the station, then turn and 'land on' a sandbank about a half-mile behind the Army camp/firing range at Hightown. They repeated this a total of four times. Didn't see anybody get out.

They then took-off again and headed out over the river again, before turning inland to set-up for a 'regular' east-to-west approach to land at the camp. Lost sight of them at that point because of the sand-dunes...

Mentioned here many times before (by me !!). But they looked especially impressive today because we have glorious autumn sunshine, the NATO Green paint positively "glowed"

Not flying and not over my house, but lastnight I was at Shiphol airport in Amsterdam waiting for my flight back to Prague.

Our flight was delayed, so I passed the time rather absorbed in watching the groundcrew activities arounda KLM 747 parked at a nearby gate.

Our flight came in and the ground crew was still busy all around the 747 as we pulled away from our gate in our little A321.

Way back in March I posted these photos of Canadian CF-18s and CC-150 Polaris's staging through Prestwick on their way  to enforce the no-fly zone over Libya.
Here's the link:

Well I am happy to report that they are on their way home.
Lunch time to-day the first four CF-18s did a formation break to land and as they came downwind they were straight over the house.
Mid afternoon I went out to the airport to see what photos I could get and there were the four CF-18s and one Polaris.
Just as I was about to leave on of the Spotters who I know slightly came over and said "There are three more on their way in, they have just passed Turnberry" (Turnberry, home of the world famous golf course is only about nine miles south of here, so I waited.
Here are the photos from this afternoon

Down at the beach yesterday arvo, and who woulda thunk it - a C-130 at a couple of thousand feet roars past. A half hour later, a Caribou came round the headlands! Now, I'm not sure what the RAAF's deal is, but I thought we retired them in 2009?!

looked out the window this morning and saw 2 AAC Lynx AH.7's heading to Koksijde before crossing the channel

8 CH-146 Giffons in a big Vee from 427 SQN flew over the house and on to downtown Ottawa.

Must be part of tomorrow's Remembrance Day ceremonies.

I've also seen a Caribou the last week, each morning slowly flying up and down the beach, between Perth and Rocknest Island offshore.  This is the SASR jumping season - each year the SASR initiates the new jumpers and affirms the old ones' wings with a couple of water jumps.  They also do night jumps which I've witnessed as well. I also thought all the Caribous were retired as well.    Perhaps Greg can tell us if there are any still flying for Wallaby Airlines?

I took my 6 year old nephew to the local hobby shop and as we were leaving a US Coast Guard Dolphin flew over head.  Presumably returning to Selfridge ANGB after a patrol or call out over Lake St Clair or the Detroit river.

Was it more like THIS :

More like seen below my "house" - Flying over the Grand Canyon on our way back to L.A. last month, I saw a 737 flying below us, at a pretty low altitude:

It's an airline that flies out of Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon airport and offers close up views on the way in. Must be pretty spectacular. It was pretty impressive from 30,000 feet (the 737 is not in this picture):

Not seen, really, but definitely HEARD somewhere about o-dark-thirty this morning - a C-5  from Dover AFB, heavily loaded, too, from the sound.  I thought he was coming in through my rear bedroom window . . .

SWMBO just grunted & rolled over . . .

Last night at 5.30pm. an RAF Sea King in BIG YELLOW PARAFFIN BUDGIE  colours, coming in very fast and low to land at the Cumberland Infirmary. The fastest  approach and landing I've ever seen them making. I assume that another tourist has fallen off one of our mountains.

There are altitude restrictions above the Grand Canyon. That aircraft is much higher than you might think...above 10,000 feet would be my guess as it isn't typical practice for airliners to fly below 250 kts indicated when not landing or taking off. Any aircraft below 10K feet, must not exceed 250 kts unless granted specific permission by ATC.
