Well given the links between Severski/Republic and Regianne it kind looks Italian to me - type of thing they would do. Design a really modern plane only for the Air Ministry to chicken out at the last minute and demand something more conservative like fixed undercart and an open cockpit  :D

Chinese markings are really useful for WIF's like this - they flew everything and anything.
