Speaking of cool X-29's, has anyone ever heard of this 1:48 "Attic" conversion set or seen it in the flesh?  The auction description notes that you need a Hawk F-5 to start with but wouldn't an F-20 be a closer base kit?

And there are a few Hasegawa 1:72 X-29's going relatively cheap just for your other variants, A.D.!!!   ^_^

Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Well, I went with the twin-tailed FSW version for this build (though the Rafale wings are carefully packed away with my other X-29 kit for a future build!).

Here she is just before a siver primer coat went on.  The conformal fuel tanks on the aft fuselage are made from cutting half a drop tank in half (each is a quarter of a tank).  The canards are staying off for now, but will be repositionsd from the bottom of the intake to the top, since the bottom mount may interfere with weapons firing during maneuvering with high control deflections.

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Maybe, but the real X-29 was a hybrid F-5/F-18/F-16 and others thrown in. (Kinda like one big roma-style orgy  ;) )

That's the AWTF Straaken.  AWTF stands for All-Weather Tactical Fighter or Ah, What The F*!

When I did my 'BAE-Northrop Grumman F-29A Scorpion' I changed the canard design like below top allow for weapons clearance, just in case you like the idea.

Wow that looks great! I love the twin tail on it!

You really don't want to ask me for any design suggestions because I always suggest spats.

Did I mention that I love spats?

Great space-alien looking stuff!

Waynos,

I have moved the canards to the top of the intake like yours.  In fact, I remembered them being that way on your F-29!

I've been racking my brains for a name for this contraption, and if you dont't mind, mine will be a Scorpion too.  The name just seems to fit the shape.

Thanks for the inspiration, by the way!

Well I'm too late to be of any influence but i'm glad you went with the first one.
The delta wing seemed a bit redundant as you could achieve a similar result by adding them to an F-5. For your next X-29 go with number two, paint it black, make it Russian, a baby Berkut.

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Actually, I believe the X-29 did use a F-5A front end from the Cant 183 bulkhead forward.  A production fighter derived from the X-29 would definitely use a F-20 front end.

It would be Scorpion II because of the F-89 ;)
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Wow, what a bunch of great jets !  More pics.

QuoteIn all comedic seriousness...

I'd get three more of the X-29 base models if I was you.
These designs ALL deserve to be crafted to completion.

I'd like to see #4 with the fins on the wings (don't care if it would really fly or not) similar to what I did with my "Straken" as one of my first kitbashes about a million years ago.

They are all stunning ideas.  Really, do them ALL.

Just my 2 cents.   :)

I like this too

Do not hesitate: buy three X-29 and a Rafale and make all of them. ;)
