Mig-29, Kingdom of Zaamunda

I got inspired by the "Alternate Histories" forum a couple months back.  This is the first of a few models built because of that forum.

Nils posted something after he watched the movie, and it got me thinking.  Never a good thing, I know.

Anyways, I'd begun to make my own decals finally, and decided to try my hand at the Zaamundan ideas I had rattling about my head.  My Zaamundan military is a bit different than the one envisioned in the original post.

This is an 1/72 Italeri Mig-29 built pretty much out of the box, except the decals which I made using some decal paper.  I've got decals for other Zaamundan aircraft, just haven't had a chance to build them yet.

Backstory:

Zaamundan air defense is handled by 20 Mig-29's, acquired from the Soviet Union in 1987.  These were replaced by another 20 more advanced Mig-29's in the mid 90's, after the heavy use they incurred during the border wars in the early 90's.  The Migs replaced a similar number of F-5's used since the late 60's.  King Jaffie Jofrie's F-5 is on display at the Royal Museum, along with his father's (King Kinte Jofrie) Spitfire from WWII.  The Migs are due for replacement later this decade.  It is thought a larger number of fighters might be purchased if only to extend the next fighter's service life through less punishing sortie turnaround, as the planes today are constantly used to fight off Zaamunda's enemies.  Candidates for replacement include the Saab JAS39 Gripen, the Dassault Rafale, Russian Mig-29M2, Boeing F/A-18E, Lockheed Martin F-16, Chinese J-10, and the Mitsubishi F-2 (the early favorite is the Gripen).
