Dornier 228 AWACS MarineFleiger

This is one of my older ideas that took a little while to be built. It's a Revell 1/72 Dornier 228 with a rotodome from a Revell 1/144 E-3. I actually forgot to put a tail hook on this thing.

Backstory:

In order to support the Deutschland and Bismark class carriers while on deployment with indigenously developed aircraft, the German Navy adopted their COD aircraft into an interim AWACS platform. While capable and inexpensive, it lacked in capabilities to the US produced E-2 Hawkeye. It was loved by its crews, though, and gave them a sense of pride flying German produced planes. They were replaced in German service in 2000 by the E-2G version of the Hawkeye.

This particular plane is one of the last AWACS 228's built, and flew for a bit minus its tailhook.

I always wanted to do one up as a ASW bird, something about that design screams "Hang torps off me please!"

Love planes with radomes, and that one is super wicked ! Nice build.

Thanks, guys! As with most of my builds, this one was fun. Inspired too. Just disappointed it took me so long to do. It was actually bought with the first batch of models that got me back into building, just sat in the stash for whatever reason until earlier this year.

Been trying to work out how a Arado E.555 would look with a Hawkeye radome

But I don't have a spare E.555 so theres one for someone
