Just added a little of the side black to try to visualise what it will look like. Lots of filler and wet/dry sanding still needed. The base kit is the Revell B-17F and is very crude - must be a very old production. So many big gaps, a cockpit that was hardly worth including and many of the transparencies were miss-shaped. Good thing most of the transparent areas on my B17 'M' are being filled in!

I'm beginning to think I might have a go at this again sometime but with a better base kit, maybe a Hasegawa B-17. I certainly wouldn't recommend giving the Revell B-17F as a gift to a friend - an enemy maybe....

Very interesting idea to say the least.  Put a RAF 100 Squadron paint job on it, and I know you'll get double takes when you display it.  This one I have to see when it's done.  Keep us all posted on the progress.

QuoteHmmm griffon powered with contrarotating props.
Put those Griffons on a B-24.  I am sure there would be some very interesting reactions to that conversion...

Very nice, Bluecheese !

I like the way that looks...especially with the camo scheme you've chosen.

Alvis, yours is always nice to see. Just somat about that paint and those markings....can't quite put my finger on it.

And wow, is that Allison powered job ever a sweet looking bird.....wouldv'e been so nice to hear a Fort fly by with V-12s.

Why didn't I think of that?

Looking great!

A very eye catching design. Looking forward to the finished product. B)

:o Thats EXACTLY the scheme I was thinking of!!  Looks great, and will no doubt cause a few double  takes. :D

Latest update.

Engines and props on a 'dry fit' (just Blu tacked in at the moment).

Second application of camouflage paint. It's odd, but the camera flash makes the brown look darker and the green a lot lighter than it really is.

The hardest part is next - attaching the undercarriage.

The problem is the Merlin nacelles underneath don't have the original attachment points, so I'm going to have to scratch build 'insertable' u/c bays and strong points for the gear. Oh well, I never thought this was going to be easy.

A little earlier I had toyed with the idea of setting the mainwheels well back on the nacelles and adding a nosewheel! But maybe if I do a Hasegawa based B-17M... :D

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...you used the Revell B-17? Oh your poor poor man..thats the same one I used as well...I felt if I was going to butcher something up, it should be something cheap. Well..bad idea. The Revell B-17 is a serious contender for "Please retire this mold and scavenge it as scrap" category. Hasegawa, Academy, even the old Airfix B-17 is a lot easier to build.

My back story on the B-17M was that Victory Aircraft, instead of building B-24s or Lancasters (They DID look at doing the B-24) went for a "proper" engined B-17 instead.

I like the WWII scheme..makes it look the more menacing!

Eddie, every time i see the Griz, i forget just how awesome she looks until i see her the next time!!

Your B-17 is looking great Bluesteel - there's something about a whiff that makes you look again because something about it just doesn't look quite right....something special!

You've hit gold with this one....would be great to see all of the recent "heavies" together...this one, the Griz, the stunning Vendetta, and Wookstas lanc/shack monster.
