QuoteOkay, Mr. Model Whisperer, I have a question.
If I'm not mistaken, you painted the overall blue first, right?

How the heck did you manage to get such a bright, opaque set of yellow  highlights over such a deep blue?

I could try that and 94 coats later, would still have a see-through greenish yellow blecch where you have your yellow.

What's your secret????    B)
Sheer luck, I assure you. :P I thought I had decals for those markings, and of course, I didn't . I was dreading the big green paint monster to appear, but I guess the luck that could have been used to win the lottery went for this paint job. ;)   Here's what I did, if you should want to take this gamble. :P
I painted what I think is flat yellow (I thought it was gloss <_< ) over the gloss coat.   It dried very fast and it doesn't matter that it's flat, cuz there's gonna be another gloss coat after the decals (that I hope work  ). Tonight, I paint the canopy, so there's still time to screw this up.

I'm glad that before I logged on I had the good sence to put on two pairs of underwear.

I'm drooling from more than my mouth. She's a very sexy girl!

For those of you thinking of getting this kit. BEWARE! The canopy has a frickin' seam down the middle of it.  <_< Hope to have some progress pix later.

QuoteThe Blue Angel Hornets are modified enough to never be put back into fleet service.  Don't remember what exactly but got that info from a BA wrench turner.

Thunderbird F-16s however have to be fully combat ready in 48 hours or something.
Further Real World Geek stuff...

From the Blue Angels site:

QuoteThe Blue Angel F/A-18s have the nose cannon removed, a smoke-oil tank installed and a spring installed on the stick which applies pressure for better formation and inverted flying. Otherwise, the aircraft that the squadron flies are the same as those in the fleet. Each Blue Angel aircraft is fleet capable of being returned to combat duty aboard an aircraft carrier within 72 hours.

Looking forward to seeing the Big Blue done!

I finally found the photo I was looking for. This is a USN photo.

I got delayed yesterday, soooooo.....here are yesterdays pix today that I took this evening. Make sense? Good ;)  :P I'm trying to take it easy and do it right. I want people to think this is the real deal. As much as possible anyway. :)

It's lookin' pretty spiffy! Are ya sure you won't reconsider? I mean a Blue Angels upper with a Thunderbirds Scheme on the bottom would be cool and confuse the heck out of people all at the same time        :)

Lookin' sharp there Eddie! That Blue Angels scheme is so eye-catching! I don't blame you for wanting to take your time on this one. I've never regretted taking time on a project, but I've had a lot of remorse over rushing it.

Great work, Mr. Miller!

Seem so logical (F-18C/D follow-on, including blue-angels)... It's really a fantastic job...
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

I don't think that'll be a problem, Eddie !

Looking good. And thanks for the pic of the BA on the cat...how cool is that ! Now, if only we could get a few CAF Hornets onto a big carrier for an excercise or two.....

On a related note, I've been planning on doing a project called 'jagged rainbow' or somat, where colour birds like test, trainers and airshow teams get together at a fighter meet type thing. Might be a good idea for a GB ?

Cheers !

Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

Thanks everyone! B) I wish I had the time to do a bi-demo bird. That would be cool, but very time consuming, I'm sure.
More progress. I had to put at least one of the decals on (which was actually 4, and I had to trim them cuz they were meant for the A model <_< ) to give it " that look". I call it light at the end of the tunnel :) Landing gear is almost done, but it sure looks better with legs on it. ^_^
