It happens. As many others have said, we often come up with similar ideas independantly, just as aerospace corporations often arrive at similar designs. I recently saw a couple of people mention a high altitude spy version of the Avro CF-100, which occupied my mind long before I found this site. But I recall posting it early in my participation here, so if anyone gripes I'll just drag up the link and tell them my claim was already staked.

I doubt that any one would do an exact copy anyway, just a similar concept, and a good back story will explain the reason for the model. In fact if someone already has the story written up they could post it without the model, just to let us know what's coming up.  ;)

The "Chocolate Chippie" wasn't my idea. Someone, Ben Retro I believe (sorry if not!) came up with the idea for an FAC/AOP Chipmunk, I simply asked if he minded I make it......................three months later, voila!

Same story with the Turbo Ju52, Someone came up with the idea, I asked if I could model it, he said go ahead.

Many, many model ideas I have were created by someone else - I feel that by making my own version, no matter how faithful (or otherwise) to the original concept, means a) I can have my own example of their amazing work, and 2) a sort of homage.

And I'm still looking forward to seeing it :D !

Quotehigh altitude spy version of the Avro CF-100,

ahhhhhh yes...

i had one that i had drawn, back in the days when i had a website (before i joined up at this nuthouse) - looked good with the meteor seaplane and the delta tornado (with the EAP wing).

bet yours is an even older idea though, eh ratty? it's very true though, great minds do think alike, and i rather like the way that we potter around on our different continents having the same great ideas!  :D

yup Zac, the chipmunk was me - glad that you built it, and loved watching it come together

Not that old really, if memory serves it hit me not long before finding this asylum, and probably what kick-started me into searching the web for this site.

Perhaps I should post the back story?

Oops, just noticed in my previous post I said "long before finding this site", and in this one I said "not long". Oh well, they say the memory is the first thing to go. The next is..., um..., what was the question?

I plan on duplicating all of Brian's Spat projects.

Just kidding...

I would get a kick out of someone doing one of my ideas.  Even better when someone takes my idea and makes a profile out of it.

Now most of my ideas are just the marking thing.  And some of the profiles I have seen here are on my to do pile.

I also have the occasional odd idea, like the Short Gunvan.  Course I see Martin beat me to it but mine will be different.  Different armanent, different markings, etc.  Didn't know Martin had done one but that won't stop me from doing mine.  May not even give Martin a nod but maybe I will... oh, just did.

What would be wrong is taking a pic of someone elses build and claiming that it was yours.  But that is a different story.

I've been seriously considering that in light of the stuff Baz has been showing us lately.

Uh, have I told you guys about the CT-151 Turbo-Mustang Trainer I've been working on ?

QuoteI don't really care :D

I plan on building more RAF Tomcats, to follow the 111sqd Tomcat F.1 I've already done (an FR.2 and FGR.3). I'll also build a Japanese Tonka, preferably blue-blue, with whatever the heck I can figure out to hang from it, and I know at least one other is thinking of the same, although in a different scale. Somewhere in my (distant) future is a CF-14B Tomcat too, F-15H and countless others that I can't begin to remember. Then there's the 617sqd TSR.2.

And if anyone decides to build a DG/DSG/LAG Tomcat or IDF/AF Gripen, have fun. But show the results!

I wonder wher you got those ideas from Martin!?

If someone follows my lead and builds a whiff inspired by me I'll be happy :) As for the other times (more often than not) where I see an idea I like done by someone else I'll ask them if I may use the idea.

Just my thoughts
Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

I have the CF-100 book and as I recall, there was a VTOL version too.

Clunks away, I'd build that. While lacking in detail, I found the Clunk a really nice model to build.

See, dang it, we're talking and planting seeds of ideas. Now if someone goes and builds a VTOL Clunk, should I get cranky? Nope. If I didn't want anyone to build it, I'd never mention it. If I was concerned with somone building something based on a build I did, then I won't show it it anyone. If something I've built is copied and the builder receives a trophy, awesome. I inspired a champion, and that feels great.
Getting back into modeling

I get a lot of inspiration from here and from what I see at shows - take the 30's cold war scenario for instance, which will eventually spawn quite a few models from me. My AVG Buffalo was inspired by Martin H's AVG Wildcat. It was only when the two were side by side at a show I realised we'd used exactly the same markings ! Martin's were from an Accademy kit and mine were from a Sky sheet - I just liked that option. I was also inspired by Glanini's profiles into a whole run of Typhoons. (one more to come)

I work on the basis that if I see or hear of an idea/concept then I will ask if it's ok for me to use and give credit for the inspiration where due. As for using my idea's then I'm more then happy to "brainstorm" concepts with people and if they build them it's fine by me - I'll probably never get around to building 5% of the ideas I come up with

Chris
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Sentinel Chicken

I take it from a different angle. I've found it easier in the last several years to put my ideas into my illustrations/profiles as I have a bad case of Modelers' Half-donkey Syndrome (MHAS) that has left me with a bench full of half-finished models and even more stashed away in boxes.

So if anyone builds a model of something I've illustrated, then I'm flattered and glad I got someone to do what I haven't done in a while- FINISH A DAMN MODEL. :D
