Republic of Ireland as NATO member could be a fruitful vein of whiffing. With vast airspaces over sea to patrol I'm envisaging Tornado F.3s or Tomcats in grey-green-blue 'celtic tribal tattoo' camo.

This is the curse of speed;  I have been a slave to it all my life. On my gravestone they will carve 'It never got fast enough for me'.

Well given that some Celtic tribal warriors fought in the nude with limed hair that could be interesting !

Ireland in NATO as a wif scenario ? When MAP was operating in the 50/60's I suppose you could have Thunderjets, Sabres etc. Maybe Hunters purchased via MAP (the Javelin was part paid for under MAP or similar so it's possible). Neptunes in the MR role ? Later on maybe F5's/A4's depending on the role the IAAC is tasked with. After MAP I don't know if even the Tiger ecconomy could have afforded much more than some F20's or maybe F.16's with Atlantiques for MR ?

Chris - realising this should be in the IAAC Group Build thread  :dum:
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

What a damm shame Kiera Knightly's character  didn't do the same in 'King Arthur'...

Ok, for Ireland in NATO, what if Irish Mirage III?? Lightning and F-104 are other possibilities, of course...
In the 80's, I see Mirage 2000, Tornado F3 or F-16, maybe F-18  for air defense... (it depends of the 1960's fighter Ireland chose)

For naval and ground attack, in the 60's and 70's, I could imagine a Mirage 5, Hunter or F-104G...
Since the 80's, the IAAC could buy Mirage 2000D or Tornado IDS, or even use F-16 or F/A-18 for this mission if US planes are chosen...

Of course, I think that IAAC could have a lot of Hawk in both training and attack versions, used as the German Alpha Jet A, to deal with Soviet amphibious and airborne troops...

I agree: they are a lot of possibilities for a IAAC Group Build

NARSES2's MAP. funded idea is an interesting possibility, hmmm wonders if theres any information in the irish archives re any possible equipment procurements? might be worth getting in touch with the chap from 'Max Decals' to find out if he knows of anything? so far iv just found the forementioned AlphaJet evaluation!

ps. Nigel's Hawk in AAC. markings looks as tho it was ment to be too...
