Here is another one that is currently in the fill/sand/prime/repeat circuit, an Airfix Fairey Rotodyne that I am playing around with. All the rivets are gone and the seams are succumbing to my will, so now I strive to make it "interesting"....

Basically I wanted to make her into a longer range, longer loiter ELINT style aircraft. To me that said more fuel, longer wings and lots of bumps and bulges. It now has side fuel sponsons made from two 1/48th scale drop tank halves, lower side looking radar (or sensor pod, I am undecided) made from a 1/48th scale EF-111A canoe fairing and a couple of other assorted bumps and bulges on top and below.
The avionics cooling scoops at the rear are from the kit the drop tank halves came off and the windows are being filled and painted over.

The wings are being stretched with a section cut from the wing of a Heller E-2C, the props are being replaced with E-2C ones unless I can squeeze a pair of contra props on it.

The Heller wings will fair in OK with a bit of filler and plasticard.

I am thinking tactical greys with some flashy full-viz squadron markings and you should see the huge IFR probe I have scratchbuilt to clear the rotors!

Any comments happily heard.

Thanks Mike and no problem John.

I have to do some cockpit detailing and painting ( and add some lead to keep the nose down!!) as I need to glue the nose on so I can fair in the Lynx nose with IR Turret and small radome (from the Airfix kit) properly.
Wodges of filler but I am only going to leave the two side and front windows clear in the final result, with perhaps the overhead reduced to two small eyebrow windows so I should be able to get a smooth transition.

Once it is all together and the sanding and filling is done, I plan to add as many blade aerials as I can to really drive home the intel gathering role of the aircraft.

Cheers

Tony

Now that will be an interesting variation!

Are you going with the same engine type at all?

My next Rotodyne will have some donated 1:48 5 bladed Rotols added to the engines.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Wow.....loking good, Tony !

Love the idea of the longer wings. And definately go with the contra props, that'll really set 'er off. Not that all the other stuff won't already ! But, since you're already going whole hog.........why not !

What's it going to be, RAF ?
