The Wooksta!

First of all, this is how far my Trumpeter one has got.

The cockpit interior is assembled, the prop shaft thing is fitted to the fuselage, the winge centre section and outer wings are done (the ejector pins are on the inside detail and need trimming to get them to fit properly), and the prop is assembled.  This is just clipped together.

1)  The Trumpeter kit looks lovely just sitting there   I made a trip to my LHS last night but they didn't have any  :(

2)  I really like the tip tanks.  Really changes the look of the plane.  Reminds me a little bit of that 60s Mustang conversion with the new engine and tip tanks.

Thanks for the pictures Wooksta, the Trumpeter certainly looks good even at this stage. Apart from the injection pin marks, how does it assemble? I should have two turn up in the mail from HLJ today, all things being equal, but as I got the CMR TF-1 while on holidays I will be interested to directly compare the two.

As an aside, I also got the CMR Blackburn Firebrand TF-5 in the same order with the Wyvern TF-1 and when I got back here to work there was a box with the AKI resin TF-5 kit so I can directly compare them as well.

Interested to see some of the finished schemes.

I've only just finished drooling over the thing in it's box- and you've nearly finished it ! Keep going mate

Picked up the last one in stock at my local Modelzone last night. The guy was telling me they can't beleive how fast it's gone. They've had to re-order it plus the Roden 1/32 DRI

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

You know, there's a story about Wyverns being able to read the evil thoughts directed at them. And, as Wyverns tend to be a bit cranky with people who don't like them, don't be surprised if you get more than a few chasing you down the street and giving you a serious whomping......

I can see the headlines now
"Belgian Man tries to defend himself with an English flag against swarm of angry Bananas" :P

That Trumpeter kit looks very nice, and I guess any man who can build a gannet better go get himself a Wyvern. Lee you got me hooked.

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

ROFL , but I'll be using a Belgian flag for that, and get me the help of some "friends" from the Antwerp zoo for those bananas.

I got my two kits in the mail the other day. The kit looks great in the box, but I decided to test build the first one to find any problems. I am building the wing unfolded and with only the flaps down, which does take a little shaping and trimming but seems to be fairly painless.

The main areas of contention are the wingtips and the speed brakes. The speedbrakes need a minimal amount of trimming to get them to lay flush, especially parts B18 and B19. It also seems to result in a better fit if the halves of the speed brake are assembled to their respective upper and lower wing halves before joining the wing halves.

The wingtips seem to have totally wrong mating angles to sit level with the main parts of the wings, but a few minutes work with a file will sort that out. I ignored parts C17, C18, C30 and C31 when joing the wings to the center section as their fit was so loose as to seem to offer no advantages.

I am retaining the flaps down, but it appears that simply trimming off the mounting pins and actuator arms will allow the flaps to be glued flush, so at least that is an option.

Correct me if I am wrong, but according to the SAMI article and drawings, the wingtips only folded on early Wyverns, perhaps only on the ones with the all clear canopy and early starter motor housing?

Wooksta, you were right about the ejector pin marks, they definitely need scraping/ sanding down if the wing halves are to go together neatly.

Agreed about the seat. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but there seems to be way too many parts for the detail that results, especially as it will be painted mostly black anyway.

As I said, this one is a test build and will be a WIf paint scheme anyway.
