Quote from: frank2056 on January 26, 2026, 06:34:29 PMThanks, guys. Lisa tripped on the raised edge (2"/50mm) of a sidewalk slab and broke her wrist and scraped her chin. She looked like she had a Māori chin tattoo for a couple of days.
Her surgeon is one of the top 5 wrist surgeons in the US. It's going to be an outpatient surgery. We're taking a Waymo down to the surgery center (in downtown LA) - I don't feel like driving through the fractal dimensions of the downtown LA freeway interchange. One wrong lane change and we could end up in 1300s Mongolia.

Is your good lady's wrist  healing well?  and are you still having to do tasks like helping her to put her socks on?

I think you showed great sense in not trying to drive through downtown LA. As you say, one wrong move and you end up trapped in a Mobius Loop.........or even worse, in Kingston upon Hull (Yorkshire East Riding)

Thank's for asking! Lisa is doing OK; she's doing physical therapy and should be going into work next week (she's been working from home). I've been "fired" from most of the extra household duties that I had taken on. I won't particularly miss the 5 AM cat breakfast!

She has a removable thermoplastic support that we've agreed will become a "model part" when she's done with it.

Kingston upon Hull sounds much better than downtown LA.

I'm happy to hear she is getting better. Got to be careful out there.
My wife and I were waiting to get back on a cruise ship many years ago. Some poor girl had apparently damaged her ankle and was being carried down the dock by her "hero" husband/boyfriend. He was so drunk he nearly walked off the edge of the dock before reaching the ship. She definitely looked very embarrassed by the whole thing.

I agree with both sentiments.  :thumbsup:

Here's some thoughts on Hull, and other places.
;D
F.W. Moorman's poem
The Dalesman's Litany

It's hard when fowks can't finnd their wark
Wheer they've bin bred an' born;
I were young I awlus thowt
I'd bide 'mong t' roots an' corn.
I've bin forced to work i' towns,
So here's my litany:
Frae Hull, an' Halifax, an' Hell,
Gooid Lord, deliver me!

When I were courtin' Mary Ann,
T' owd squire, he says one day:
"I've got no bield for wedded fowks;
Choose, wilt ta wed or stay?"
I couldn't gie up t' lass I loved,
To t' town we had to flee:
Frae Hull, an' Halifax, an' Hell,
Gooid Lord, deliver me!

I've wrowt i' Leeds an' Huthersfel',
An' addled honest brass;
I' Bradforth, Keighley, Rotherham,
I've kept my barns an' lass.
I've travelled all three Ridin's round,
And once I went to sea:
Frae forges, mills, an' coalin' boats,
Gooid Lord, deliver me!

I've walked at neet through Sheffield loans,
'T were same as bein' i' Hell:
Furnaces thrast out tongues o' fire,
An' roared like t' wind on t' fell.
I've sammed up coals i' Barnsley pits,
Wi' muck up to my knee:
Frae Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham,
Gooid Lord, deliver me!

I've seen grey fog creep ower Leeds Brig
As thick as bastile soup;
I've lived wheer fowks were stowed away
Like rabbits in a coop.
I've watched snow float down Bradforth Beck
As black as ebiny:
Frae Hunslet, Holbeck, Wibsey Slack,
Gooid Lord, deliver me!

But now, when all wer childer's fligged,
To t' coontry we've coom back.
There's fotty mile o' heathery moor
Twix' us an' t' coal-pit slack.
And when I sit ower t' fire at neet,
I laugh an' shout wi' glee:
Frae Bradforth, Leeds, an Huthersfel',
Frae Hull, an' Halifax, an' Hell,
T' gooid Lord's delivered me!

Mark Knopfler had similar sentiments, when he penned the Theme to "Auf Wiedershen, Pet"  :thumbsup:
