Macchi MC-CCV - Imperial Roman Air Force

In 1940 the Roman Emperor Tiberius VIII issued a decree that the Imperial Roman Air Force were to be upgraded to stand up to the threat from the Russian and Japanese Empires. The best aircraft designers from the Roman Empire were invited to tender proposals for new fighter aircraft.

One of the entries was from the Macchi Aircraft factory in Lombardy. Macchi paired up with an engine manufacturer from Germania, named Daimler-Benz.
The design of the new fighter built on previous fighters from Macchi that had been produced for the empire and had been reasonably successful but suffered from a lack of engine power. The new design was called the Macchi MC-CCV and first flew in 1942. From the very beginning of the flight trails the aircraft proved to be a success and soon after the first flight an order was placed for a 1000 MC-CCVa models. The A model was followed by a great number of different variants and the MC-CCV became the standard fighter for the Roman Air Force, flying all over the vast Roman Empire.

In the Roman – Russian war of 1945, the "Veltro" as the fighter was named, scored many kills against the Russian Yakolev fighters.
The Veltro was phased out of service starting in 1948 and was gradually replaced by the Reggiane Re-MVII Diablo jet fighter. However, the Veltro remained in service in the more remote areas of the empire until 1967.

Oh nicely done - I like "Modern Roman" stuff, and that looks great.

Can I post it to Twitter ("X" )? There's an author on there (Helen Dale) who'll particularly appreciate it, since she wrote a couple of "high-tech Romans" books.
