As you can see it carried Skyflashes, and had a more cambered wing as well as an RWR fin top fairing. Back then the canopy was an Airmodel vacform for a 2 seater Mirage.

That looks absolutely fantastic! If you just said that it had a Blue Vixen radar, it would be the embodiment of the original post.

..... Have you made the wings longer?... :o
Don't let ageing get you down, it's too hard to get back up

Yes, just a bit, but I wasn't in my 'make the wings longer at any cost' period back then  ;D  I just added a bit on the tips and a bit more camber on the leading edge.

I've still got the model and show it sometimes amongst the numerous other Lightnings we have in the SIG.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Yep, that's and option for sure! Thanks!

Quote from: scautomoton on October 13, 2025, 05:14:07 AMsee Gengriz's build here for inspiration.

Also worth checking the For Sale section of most forums, normally cheaper than The 'Bay.

I've seen that one, super impressive!

Quote from: MikoLee on October 12, 2025, 02:57:35 PMThe obvious kit for this build would be a Matchbox T55, on searching the usual second hand kit dealers they are going for around £25, this seems a little steep for an ancient kit where the far more modern Sword T4/5 can be had for less than twenty, although this doesn't have the larger ventral tank, so maybe recessed under fuselage mountings like the Phantom and Tornado ADV for the Skyflash and fuel tanks on the outer wing pylons

Freightdog have their FGA Lightning conversion in-stock at the moment, which includes a full-length ventral tank (of slightly different shape to the real one) with no guns and mid-mounted pylons. This would enable you to convert a Sword T5 to a full-length pack:

That looks ideal! Thanks!

WoW!! that looks kinds weird! I can see it's original Airfix Lightning heritage

Very much in the spirit of 'what if', great result, I like that a lot

Back then it was almost the only game in town.  ;D

I think FROG were just producing their Hasegawa clone F6 though, which is where I got the overwing tanks from IIRC.
