Like this. Part of a study (didn't get as far as a project) in the 50's to determine which RAF aircraft could field a large radar antenna. Vulcan was the largest.

A series of setbacks and mishaps led to this ending up on the shelf of doom, unfortunately.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Thanks that looks impressive.
Although I've always wanted to make the front and rear radomes in the style of the FASS  with thin stripes of plastic or scribed lines if my hand doesn't shake too much.
Another crack at the H.P. Victor AEW.3 is on the way.

Is that an E-3 rotodome scabbed under the bomb bay?

I LIKE that idea!  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

I'm no expert but the E-3 rotodome looks way too thick slung underneath the Vulcan, the Grumman Hawkeye rotodome or something along those lines even the Lockheed EP-3C conversion set would be more appropriate.
I still have the 3D printed test piece rotodome from the Andover AEW 1/72 prototype for the Indian Air Force and the resin rotodome from the RVHP Lockheed EC-121 test aircraft that would become the Boeing E-3. Somehow that's not going to fit underneath the Airfix Avro Vulcan unless it's sliced in half and I don't have the tools for that besides it would never be a tailsitter as it weighs too much!

It gets a mention in Chris Gibson's Battle Flight. I believe it was just a preliminary study to see what was possible (Brittania and dome other types were investigated too) and not necessarily practical. I blew up the diagram so I could have at it.

The radome is completely scratch built, I made a skeleton from plastic card then filled it with scrap and a shed load of Milliput over the top and PSR'd for forever and a day. It's thicker in proportion to the E-3s rotodome (the Vulcan's was static, the radar rotating internally), 25' ×6' compared to the Sentry's 30' x6'.

I converted it to a B.1A using the Flightpath set, but the wing inserts cracked - the plug was too narrow and repeated PSR caused it to break way. I'm not sure how to recover it. I also had paint issues, my rattlecan spulgered and I've got drips and crazing in places. To add insult to injury, something fell on the canopy as I was musing all this, dinged it and knocked it off. After all that I lost motivation.

The Bristol Britannia AEW is another build in the pipeline, hopefully the Mach2 kit won't present too many problems.
Still got the Ericsson Erieye which could fit above a Dassault Aviation-Breguet Atlantic or something smaller. Which means changing the Douglas Sea Dakota.

AEW Atlantic seems a shoe-in. I've wondered about removing the lower lobe (more to create a civvy version) but it's major work. The Erieye system would work well.

Having read a couple of kit reviews for the 1/72 Bristol Britannia I might change the engines to Rolls-Royce Tynes. This will solve the problems of the landing gear when using the Revell kit.
Breguet did try and promote the Atlantic for the AEW and transport roles, I did have one of their brochures. Misplaced in my many house moves.
Another build will be the de Havilland Comet 4C AEW, not the one with the FASS radomes but something resembling the Grumman Hawkeye rotodome.
From reading a few of the Mach2 Comet reviews it looks like the Welsh Models kit would be more suitable. Personally the old Airfix kit with its faults depicting the HS Nimrod MR.1 or BAe Nimrod MR.2 with the Hawkeye rotodome.

The outrigger landing gear has been changed to something beefier ( kept breaking off when moved for sanding) and so has the rotodome. This will be relocated at the top of the vertical tail fin.
