Getting the tail rotor to come out right is a real pain  :banghead:

My original idea was to print it flat, but that turned out to be a bit of a stringy mess, so I think I may have to print the hub and rotor blades vertically (and separately) and then glue them together.  As small as they are, that will be a fiddly job!

Since your going Navy with it the Longbow part is pretty much useless as there's bugger all things to hide behind in the ocean
If yours going to of course support landing op's  which i suspect your gonna even then its not much use really as you'll have things like Hawkeyes high up flying recon and things like that to also help out ,,,,and one more thing,,,it looks epic without it ,,which i think is the most important part

Well the Longbow is just as much a targeting system as it is a situational awareness system (though I guess it's a bit of a moot point with a load of AGM-179s  ;D ).  With a load AGM-114Ls, the Longbow can actually allow the helicopter to shoot at targets from behind cover/concealment, with just the radar mast poking up (although that doesn't really work on the AH-1Z because they put the stupid thing on one of the stub wing pylons instead of atop the rotor mast  :banghead: ).  With all of that being said, I do like the way it looks without the radar, so no radar it is.  Besides, Apaches actually have a fairly significant reduction in top speed with the Longbow fitted on the rotor mast, that's how much extra drag it causes!

Now I have to print the tail rotor and the twin racks for the APKWS pods.  Still a fair amount of work to be done.
The radar position on the Zulus really isn't an issue as they've never been intended to
operate like the AH-64. Stooging around below the treetops waiting to pop up and attack
Russian tanks rolling into Europe. The USMC requirements are quite a bit different as
is the typical operating environment.

Mate i'm gonna cheat my back side off when i build my mutant AH-64,,what i'm gonna do is very likely steal one of a Blackhawk or modify a Hind D one ,,i've got this 5 bladed thing going in me head now  :banghead:

Indeed, I've always assumed that the main purpose of being able to mount Longbow on the AH-1Z in the first place was to enhance its ability to engage multiple targets with Hellfires simultaneously, since it can locate targets and give targeting instructions to missiles fast enough to allow ripple-firing.

I wish I had that option at this point, but if there's one thing that my stash doesn't include currently it's helicopter kits (or even parts for that matter).  So I suspect 3D printing is my only option.  Now if I could just get it to work correctly with such a small part  :banghead:

Spino if it wasn't for one member on our site,, Old Wombat ,,my stash of aircraft parts would be zero ...he sent me just one model plane ,,a 48th Vindicator ,,old as the hill's and since i had't built a model plane in decades the bug hit like a freight train ...he's to blame for the carnage which followed   ;D
Now i've got heaps of the things ,,complete kits and parts scores i've had really upped the pile ..also some epic deals on aircraft really helped ...it's getting out of hand bud

I don't doubt it!  My stash isn't super extensive and it's almost exclusively 1/48th jets, so I won't be finding any tail rotors laying around.  That's all right though, I'll find a way to get this sorted out.

Actually, it was a Monogram 1/48 Curtiss SB2C Helldiver, not a Vought SB2U Vindicator, but I'll forgive you.  ;)  ;D

Am I unhappy about that??  .no ..not really  😁
Fact I'm quite chuffed about it ☺️ 😊

Matey ya see I've got a couple of problems..one I love helicopters and two I love large scale helicopters and because of that I've got 12
35th scale choppers including 2 x  Hind gunships  :banghead:
So when I do finalize my ideas for this mutant it's gonna be 35th scale so it's not going to be all that small 🙃
Is it going to be cool though?? ...yeah I think so ..so that part I'm going to look forward to 😉
