Santa's coming by stealth. The B-2 Christmas bomber.

What am I doing wrong? 

I decided to paint the landing gear struts gold because the runners on Santa's sleigh are traditionaly colored gold.
As you can see in the pic, I'm using Vallejo Model Air gold colored paint. But after I applied it (via hand brushing as I don't have an airbrush), it looks like you can still see the gray plastic underneath the gold paint color. What am I doing wrong? Is there a primer I should have put down first? If so, what color primer would have worked best under gold color paint?

You just need more coats, LOTS more coats maybe.

Metallic shades are often like that, specially if you're using paint mean for air-brushing too.

Real gold leaf usually uses a terra cotta color as a base before the foil goes on.  I agree, needs another coat.

I do have a spare set of landing gear from another kit.
Would it be better to use the spare set and spray can paint that gold instead of trying to hand brush?
Anybody have experience using the Tamiya or Revell gold spray can paints?

I don't think there's much more, if anything, I can do on this model project for the rest of this year and/or winter. What I'd like to do is some spray can painting of the bomber, the landing gear, and a few other pieces. But winter is here and I can't open the windows or doors for ventilation. So I'm going to have to wait till Spring next year.
As far as other small parts that might need hand brushing, there's not much of those either.
During the next three months, I'll need to find and buy a Santa figure, some reindeer figures, Winter/Christmas type decals, an airfield tarmac display base, and a few other items.
And also during the winter, I need to come up with a way to detail the weapons bay to hold all the Christmas presents. When Testor made the model, they didn't put any detail inside the weapons bay. So the weapons bay is just one big empty plain rectangular box.    No detail inside it at all.
So it looks like this project is temporarily on hold till Spring 2026 next year.
In the meantime, I'll take any opinions, questions, tips, comments, suggestions, etc. that anybody has for building and detailing this project.

Maybe. I also was thinking of putting a mirror under the bomber so people could look at the mirror in order to see the underside and into the weapons bay.
But I haven't fully decided on this yet.
