What if the Admiralty had taken up the offer of the Grumman E-1B Tracer as the Grumman
E-2A Hawkeye was coming into service with the USNAVY?
The idea of changing the radial engines to turboprops has worked on the other variations within the Trader family and this has been debated on this site with a few interesting whiffs that I would like to pursue.
There has been a few conversion sets but they centre around the Tracker, one idea was a kitbash using the Grumman Hawkeye's wings, engines and the rotodome, another one was a turbofan version of the Grumman Greyhound. This idea is doable using parts from the Lockheed S-3 Viking kit.
Alleycat provides one of the conversion sets but unfortunately my PayPal account has been hacked and therefore I think that I could use the Turbo Dakota engines from the A & A Models Basler BT-67 kit or the Rolls-Royce Darts off the Vickers Viscount/A.W. Argosy.
Development would evolve into the Turbo Tracer having the Hawkeye's rotodome and a fuselage stretch with the possibility of a fifth crewman in the back.
I feel that the 1/72 Mach2 Grumman E-1 Tracer model kit would be ideal for this build although parts from the Hasegawa Tracker ( or combined with the Falcon Triple vacform conversion set) if preferred. More than one Tracer kit will be required along with more than one Hawkeye although I do have a 3D printed rotodome that was meant for the Avro 748.
