Chaps,

In Conways "All the worlds Fighting Ships 1947 to 1995" is a description of a French post war carrier design, the PA28.

The ship is fairly conventional, but the airgroup was not.  The torpedo bomber element was supposed to be 22 Aerocentre NC1070's, a fantastic looking twin engined, twin boomed aircraft. (One for Trophe?)

The fighter element was designed to be 5 SE582 fighters, with a further 22 suspeneded from the hangar roof.

While I have found details of the NC1070, I am completely stumped by the SE582.  The book mentions it was the naval version of the SE580, but that hasn't led me anywhere either.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Mark

The SE. 580/582 was a single-engined fighter deisgn built around a 24-cylinder Hispano-Suiza engine.  At least some of the aerodynamic design derives from the D.520.  Anyone with the Docavia book on French Combat Aircraft, 1945-1960 covering fighters should be able to provide more detailed info.

Trophe?  Do you ahve that one?

Dear elmayerle,

I have a copy of "Les Avions de Combat Français" and the type is described from page 21 to 23 (Vol 1) including 3 views and pics of the prototype in early assembly stages. The type is an impressive looking fighter with a huge dorsal air intake.

If anyone is interested on more info or drawings, please send me a PM and I will send you scans or translated summary to English.

By the way this two volumes are pure gold. It is a pity that only covers 1944 to 1960. It is hard to find information on French unbuilt projects. :(
