Can someone help me please?
I know that after WW2theRAAF started to use the roo rounel on the fuselage and RAF red dot roundels on the wings. I have artwork of a RAN Seafury in 1956 with RAF style roundels in all 6 positions, and a RAAF Canberra with the roos on the fuselage with RAF dots on the wings.

When did they start using the roo on the fuselage please?

Was it 1956 when they started using the roo in all 6 positions?

Did the RAN also change at these dates?

Geoff (very confused, tired and in need of a drink[coffee] I want to do a RAN Seahawk and a RAAF Panther.

The current version of the RAAF Roundel was formally adopted on 2 July 1956 although interestingly it was only initially applied to the fuselage sides.  The Roo Roundel was only applied to the wings of RAAF aircraft from approximately November 1965!

The RAN adopted the Roo Roundel in all positions from 1956.

Cheers Greg

So a RAN Seahawk can have roos in all six places from 1956 - But a RAAF Panther will only have the roos on the fuselage prior to 1965 (probably)??
OK depends on maintanence schedules for individual a/c I know.

Correct.  What are you planning exactly?  If you simply get a decal set for a RAAF CAC Sabre you should be right - my suggestion would be one for a 76SQN bird:

Hi Greg,
I do have a decal sheet for the CAC Sabre so my RAAF Photo-Recce Panther will have Sabre markings straight off the sheet. With a colour scheme from Gekko 1's profile.

I was getting confused with the RAN; I have a Seafury sheet which has artwork for a RAN plane in 1956 with RAF style roundels in all 6 places. The only other pics I had was of RAAF aircraft with roos on the fuselage, = confused Geoffrey!
I want to do a Seahawk FGA-6(?) in RAN service in the mid-late'50s, EDSG over Sky, preferably with roo roundels, but was getting confused by the RAAF only putting them on the fuselage.

A Panther Panther - cool!!!

QuoteI'm sure there was a Commonwealth project that looked very like a Panther - or they were looking at licence building it.

Correct on both accounts.  The Grumman Panther was looked at for licence production before the Sabre was selected.  There was also a CAC project design called the P186 that was very similar (possibly even based upon) the Panther.  Once my computer problems are sorted out, I will post a picture of it.

As promised, here is a drawing of the CAC P186 proposal:

There was also this proposal, though I am not sure of its project number or relationship to either the P186 or the Grumman Panther:
