QuoteWell, for whiffs you can certainly get away with the bare minimum - bang seat warnings and the like, who is to say you are wrong?

In 72nd, many stencil decals are oversized and overbright, and look much more obvious on the model than they do on the real thing.

OTOH, some subjects are literally festooned in stencils, and look wrong without them (eg JASDF F-4s)
Pray for me guys... I want another Phantom, but the only left at the shop is a Revell F-4F, probably "festooned" of ultrasmall stencils
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Strangely I was talking with Geoff about this while I was in Bolton. I've seen many a 1/72 & 1/48 scale model ruined IMHO by the overuse of stencils. Seems to afflict F-4's and F-15's in particular especially Japanese AF ones ? Even in 1/32 you can overdo it

I use the obvious ones like wing walks, escape and ejector seat warning triangles etc, but lifes to short for most others. On WWII models it's the prop blade manufacturer's markings, petrol triangles, first aid cross and "trestle here" markings and thats about it.

Amazing how many models you see of aircraft with a temporary finish and full stencils  ;)

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

QuoteI have finished painting my Revell 1/72 Typhoon, and i have put on the national and squadron markings.

But my heart sinks at the thought of applying 50 or so stencils to the airframe. My head says it must be done, but my heart says don't bother.

Does anybody else not like all those stencils, or am i the only one?
I hate them as well and just leave them off. They are far too fiddly and boring. Life is too short!

This is the curse of speed;  I have been a slave to it all my life. On my gravestone they will carve 'It never got fast enough for me'.

You could weather the Typhoon so that it represents one 8 or 10 years from now after they stop caring somuch about keeping it looking show room clean and touch up paint has covered stencils.....

Eventually the real thing will catch up in appearances with your model if you do it that way.

I have a 1/72 Gripen that ended up looking a bit over done in the weathering department, but I have every confidence the real ones will look like it eventually.

Hey, you are a gang of lazy modellers: every stencil must be done, if you do not have decals, a thin brush or a pen. And, of course, proper lettering.

Did I mention I love Cyrillic in MiG fighters

I challenge anyone to build the 1/144 Revell An-124 and do all the stencils. I think there are over 400 on the lower wing surfaces for a start!

Revell seems rather sadistic (sadic ?) with its decals sheet...
