I was thinking on A war on drugs using a small Civil aircraft out fitted to work in Drug Enforcement, say in Recce work or even lightly armed for any Interdiction that may be nessicary. I dont know much about Light Civvie aircraft but some of you guys are experts on the subject any ideas? and available kits that you know of would be cool as well ;) Thanx

IIRC, the DEA already have/had Cessna 310's and Citations.

A Christan Husky might be interesting especially if equipped with tundra tires and useful for patrolling both the North (interior) border and Southern border.   There's no small amount of running to and from Canada along Montana and N. Dakota's borders by air.     The Husky or a STOL-equipped Cessna 185 or 206 could be used with minimal suspicion until 'pop' goes the weasel.

A Pilatus PC-6 Turboporter aka AU-23 Peacemaker would be good.

Also for the airborne command post/recce role, maybe a DHC-8 Dash-8(not really "light" aviation, but not a 747 either).US Dept of Homeland Security has a few for that role and I believe surveillance. You could also probbley make a decent side firing gunship model of the Dash-8,throw on a couple 7.62mm minis and an undernose FLIR.

For surveillance, there are some interesting things that could be done with a long-model MU-2, especially if you extend the fairings for the main landing gear wells farther forward to cover things.  If you didn't mind being a bit noticeable, you could pick up useful bits from the short SAR (MU-2S?) version for the JMSDF and the LR-1 cooperation aircraft version for the JGSDF.

Dale Browns Hammerheads is a good read for this kind of thing, in it the 'Border Protection Force' was formed from elements of the Coast Guard, Customs, DEA & ATF.  It was formed to protect the US from the drugs cartels who were becoming more aggresive in getting their supplies in to America.  The V-22 is the main aircraft used in the book, along with UAV's along the lines of Bells Eagle Eye & the X-45.

Heavier types, maybe Shorts C-23A Sherpas or BAE-146's for fast reaction, short runway ops?  The Lockheed YO-3A would have been useful as a light observation type, & may even have been able to be fitted out for attack.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Customs has had Citations and other bizjets, some with F-16 radar up front, for many years.
