So a week or so ago I was at Hobby Lobby getting some art supplies for my sister. I just happend to walk by the model isle ;) , and deceided to pick up a basic enamel pait set from Testors and some paint brushes so I can start painting my models. Since the colors are only red, blue, green, yellow, black, gold, silver, and white doing a camo scheme is sort of out of the question.

I did a quick look through my stash and chose the Starfix Spitfire to be made into a post war racer, red with some blue, green, and yellow triming. So far I have glued the wings together and started painting them; painted the wheels, props, exhaust pipes, landing gear strusts and there covers. The only real problem was getting the seat to stay in it's place when I glued the fuselage halfs together.

Once the fuselage was done drying I took some scotch tape and masked off the top of the fuselage which I'm going to paint some other color.

When I went back to paint another coat on the wings I realized why you need to apply future after each coat. Because now I have several uneven spots that the paint won't cover.

I'm sorry they pictures aren't very good because of A) my model table is a corner and lighting isn't very good and B.) my camera is really crappy

PS- I just noticed I forgot to add the pilot to the cockpit ^_^

Let it dry a bit, and hit it with some 600 grit paper, and put another thin coat on...piece of cake.  That should be one heck of a bright racer !

Whoa there. Applying Future between coats of paint? That really shouldn't be necessary.

I don't recognize the paint you're using. What is that?

With my Humbrol enamels, I rarely have problems applying another coat. The paint just needs to be dry before you apply the second coat. With enamels, this can take a day or so.
If all else fails, Ctulhu's sandpaper tip works well. I'd use a finer grain sandpaper (1200), though. With 600, I tend to sand right through the paint layer.

SPINNERS

The Starfix Spitfire. Surely a classic kit.... and don't call me Shirley.

If you're going to mask & paint over another color, make sure to put on a coat of Future before you mask. The Future will seal the paint & keep the tape from pulling the paint up.

The paint is Testor, just some basic model painting set

I don't have any future or filler for that matter, but they are on my shopping list

I use a nail file that has four different grit levels (I don't know what level they are I just know them as dark blue, light blue, dark pink, and light pink; though I only use the blue side ( ^_^ )) instead of sand paper. It's pretty hand cuz I switch the grit level by just flipping it over/turning it around. Dark blues is the heaviest, probably around 700 grit, and I only use it when I really need to sand something. Light blue is probably only half the grit of dark blue, I use it for pretty much everything. :)
