Remember this ??

Well if you don't it's not a problem. Some of you may recall a Hasegawa 1:72 F-20 that I posted here in the summer - even if I say so m'self it was quite neat. Well based upon that I went out and got m'self a small handful of Monogram Tigersharks (and one F-5E). The simple premise being for the F-20's; one green, one grey and one blue. The F-5E is another story !

So after much 'putting it off till another day' I painted the cockpit the same Light Ghost Grey as the Typhoons undercoat, and this afternoon started painting the instruments with a brand new No1 sable brush, some Humbrol Matt Black & Panzer Grey and a great deal of patience.

This is going to be a German Recce machine. The gun ports in the nose will be filled in and the (huge) recce pod from the RoG Typhoon will go on the centreline. The rest of the loadout will be four AIM-9L's and a pair of droptanks. The camo will be the German version of Euro 1 wraparound seen on the very late F-104's/Tornado's?RF-4's etc.

I'll post more updates into this thread as I have them. Thanks for looking. As usual all comments and crits are welcomed.

Looks good, looks good.
Get ready for the filler....I used quite a bit on the couple I built.

Be Advised, the fit of the fwd part of the LEXs will need filler when you add the upper intake halves, they also may not line up (ie either warped in a slight up or down angle).

How did you find the fit? When I sealed mine up I had to do HORRIBLE sanding in order to get the seams to so-so even out.

Luftwaffe F-20s are sooooo 2005!  ;)  :P

Ian, if this is half as good as your other one, I know it will rock.  The German Lizard scheme is an ace camo  :tornado:

Let's not forget how disgustingly tidy that modelling desk looks.

Hear hear !  I think we should send over some junk from our desks to clutter his up a tad.

Nice job on that jet, looking forward to the paint.

I am jealous. I can contribute with a lot of junk styrene.

Ian, that luftwaffe recon concept is very interesting. An the instrument panel is great!!

I feel a little bit strange here, but the Instrument panel isn't really started yet. All I've done is put the basic black(s) over grey. Most of the panels are just matt black, some are gloss black and a couple very dark grey (Humbrol 67).

Next will be a little dry brushing with couple of lighter grey coats to bring-out the raised detail. then I'll 'spot' a few prominant switches and buttons with light grey, white and a couple red. The same applies to the control column.

The MFD's will be painted silver then when dry a careful spot of Tamiya clear green to make them appear 'on'. As yet I haven't decided as to how to do the seat, maybe a contrasting grey, maybe black.

Thanks for taking the time to ask the question.

Now you REALLY, got my interest, Ian. Isn't it ready, then?
Man, I need to watch this unfold. You and JHM should sell a video-course on painting cockpits.

I thought I had a sense of deja vu, but then it seems Ian got pretty good at getting past my tinfoil hat in the past:

Rafa: I won't be doing any more this week, as I'm hoping to get the Academy OV-10 finished for a (local) show/comp on the 11th. All my efforts are being poured into this. Of course I had to choose the most complex mask/paint job !

Mr. Chicken, I still have that as my Desktop/muse at home !
