Egad!  Still, they'd probly say we stole the Eurofighter from them :)  

But its wouldn't be the 1st bird (or anything else for that matter) the chinese just ripped off another country...

Actually Wooksta, thats not the case - china and Israel have been developing closer military ties - which the Israelis then use to threaten the US with ie

US:  Stop building those settlements on Palestinian land, or we'll not sell (give) you those F-16s

Israel:  No.  And we'll get our stuff from China instead

US: nononononononono - please no, here, have some F-15s on the house.

Israel signed a deal with China to help them develop an AWACS which had the US really worried at one point.  Not sure of its status now.

Saw the Chengdu J-10 for the first time last night in the March/03 "Air International" magazine.  In fact, I almost missed the article because I mistook it for the Eurofighter Typhoon until I noticed the Chinese markings.  Will be no surprise to some of you but I thought I'd share this site due to the odd controversy surrounding this Chinese prototype and the possible connection to Israel's on-again, off-again "Lavi" program.  Strange bedfellows, indeed!

AWACS status is now non-existent. US balked at letting Israel put the Phalcon phased-array radar on an Il-76 and made noises. China wouldn't accept any other platform and the whole thing went to pot. There's been some talk of China acquiring actual Ilyushin/Beriev A-50 Mainstays, but I don't know how far that's come.

Looking at the J-10 pics, it appears to be the real thing. You've got to be careful with pics of Chinese kit. I remember a couple of years ago Airforces Monthly ran a pic of a 'Z-10' attack helo prototype. It was actually a South African Rooivalk with a fenestron rotor superimposed on the tail :s

BTW, anyone know anything about the Chinese buying MiG-31s?
