I got this idea from the thread about up-engined the DC-3 here.

What if the RAF converted old DC-3/C-47 airframes with Griffon engines and used them in Korea. I used an Italeri AC-47 and two Academy Spitfire kits to donate the engines. The Academy spits were the cheapest way I could find to get two Griffon's.

If you glue all that together, you get something like this:

I LIKE that.  ;D

That'd be one honking Dak with 4000 + hp!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

In the late 1950's  I have a childhood memory of  rows of DC3's lined up on the perimeter of RAF Silloth airfield (the former 22 MU) None of them had engines.   Many years later, I was told that at the end of the war, and thus the end of lease-lend,  the USA had  claimed the aircraft back from the RAF.  The story goes that initially, the USA asked for all of the aircraft and engine  logs and records, and then burned them to prevent the aircraft being used without the bother of actually recovering them.    Wily RAF staff photographed the logs before returning them, so the next batch of DC3's had the engines removed and returned to the USA or scrapped elsewhere to prevent any further use of the airframes. Don't know if this is true, but it is very widely believed in North Cumbria.

Using a surplus of Merlin engines on these Dakota airframes  would have been a sensible action..............get one over on the politicians of Washington AND  have available transport aircraft with a good lump of engine power in reserve.
