Quote from: kerick on Yesterday at 08:26:24 PMWere there distinctive markings on the vehicles or aircraft? I've a feeling the aircraft had standard British roundels. I'm no expert on that.
On the other hand, if it's a whiff, you could make it NZ or Aussie markings.

Yes and no. I can only say for aircraft, but certainly in the European and African campaigns they used the "standard" RAF roundel (unlike the South Africans) but in the Pacific it seemed to be a little more all over the place, especially when the red was omitted to avoid confusion with the Hinomaru.

SEAF went with the twin blue roundal, both Aus and NZ just deleted the red dot, then some appeared with white stripes either side, some didn't, the white centre spot seemed to vary in size and no apparent standardisation was settled on. No doubt someone will now come out and say yes there was and here it is;)
The highest echelons of command may utter all of the proclamations, agreed standards and edicts that they wish, but when it gets down to the individual erks at runway level painting the aircraft, they are much more likely to follow the foibles of their squadron leader and/or choose the easiest option.

As a 13 year member of the E-4 Mafia, it's going to always be the easiest option.
