Thinking back, when I was secretary of the WCRM Systems Review Panel (early 2000's) all the work was focussed on approvals for the Class 390 - The Pendolino.  Eurostar was not considered.  Mind you, back then we were working on running 140mph trains all the way to Manchester.  Before it all got "value engineered" down to 125.

I went on a pre launch Eurostar run.  They loaded the train with Railtrack staff and took us to Brussels to check everything worked.  Random ticket allocations - I got first class.  We drunk the buffet car dry in both directions.  We may have got a bit unruly and on the test runs after that they kept the bar closed and only sold soft drinks and food.  Yes, just like at school it seems me and my peers ruined it for everybody that came after us... :wacko:
