A beefed up Hornet, well liked for its slender features. It's  a beautiful blasphemy.
Whatever.

"Who's he then? A gangster?"

Now masked, although once it's done I'll have to redo the fin - I need something to hold whilst spraying and the fin is ideal, but with FAA aircraft using the high demacation, the fin is in Sky.  Can't remember how I got round that with the torpedo fighter one.

As for a user, it's going with 809 NAS.  They had Sea Hornet NF21s and were used in the night fighter and strike role, having formed on the type in 1949 (need to recheck Sturtivant).  This is largely as I can steal the decals from one of the many Skybirds NF21s in the loft.  And as for a carrier letter?  J for Eagle.  I've always had a liking for that aircraft.

Well, the fin's done, but I'm not entire happy with it and there's a few areas that'll need a touch up with a hairy stick. Once that's done, I can perhaps get some decals on.  I don't need to go up in the loft as I found some decals in the Magna NF21 I brought down last week, and they're for 809 NAS and on HMS Eagle.  I'll use the F20 serial from a Skybirds one though. There's bound to be some clever sod at a show who can read the four point serial code and declare that it's wrong for an F20.

The undercarriage has had a coat of aluminum, as have the wheel hubs.  The doors were done at the same time as I was doing the fin.  Made sense.  The underwing tanks have been primed but I think they're going to need a lot more work before I can get some paint on them.  Although nice to have, they're not essential.

Next bit is to sort out the ammunition tanks that go behind the pilot on the parcel shelf.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

"Ah! Er, that's probably Transvaalian for "very hard drugs"."

Right, that's the decals on.  I had to go into the loft after all to get a set of Skybirds NF21 decals - and brought down a pair of them - as the Magna ones would not release from the backing sheet.  I ditched the Magna roundels in favour of some Cartograf ones from an Airfix Spitfire F22.  The Skybirds decals went on fine, despite being 30+ years old, although the glue is that horrid white stuff that although it dries clear has a disturbing tendency to turn turd brown with age. So it got washed off, the decals dropped onto the Airfix backing sheet to gain some adhesion before going on a surface prepped with some Micro Set.

A day to let that all cure and I can get some varnish on.
