All I can find on the Net is a description of 'dark grey hulls and light grey superstructures', which isn't a lot of good for a died-in-the-wool aircraft modeller......  :banghead:

What colours were RN ships painted during the 80s please, hull, decks and superstructures and are any RAF greys a suitable match?

If not, who supplies suitable paints in the UK for brushing please?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

What you want is HERE, although I think you need @Thorvic to tell you exactly which paints you need.

Gondor's Modelling Rule Number Three: Everything will fit perfectly untill you apply glue...

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

IIRC from books about ship camouflage in WWII and partly later is that the RN stuck to with warship tones from the war era, and AFAIK this standard light grey was "507c, Foreign Stations Light Grey". Humbrol's 64 is a very good match, it's similar to RAF Medium Sea Grey. There were exceptions, though, e.g. a more bluish tone similar to RAF Duck Egg Green, that was applied to a few smaller ships.
Painted decks were "507a, Dark Grey", alter also called G10 or "battleship grey". Again, Humbrol provides a good equivalent: 27, but RAF DSG is a close alternative. Walkway areas were still coated with corticene, a red-brown stuff, much like saddle leather. Later, decks were also painted in Sea Green (Humbrol 88), but I do not know when or why this was introduced.

As per Gondors links the best match are Resolution Hobbies RN Light Weatherwork Grey (BS 381C 676) for Hulls and superstrructure sides, with their Ship Extra Dark Sae Grey for decks (note this is different to their aircraft Extra Dark Sea Grey !!!!). Bare in mind that these were developed by the original Xtracolour enamels and these are still enamels.

For those looking to use Acrylics or Laquers, i have found US Light Ghost Grey and US light gunship grey are suitable alterantives
