As some of you might have seen in my blog, the unofficial Swedish championship in modelling went ahead this weekend in Gothenburg. While I only went for one of the days, it was a nice show and some really good builds.

There were six tables, and two of those with aircraft. Those of you focusing on other stuff will have to excuse me for sticking to my favourites.  ;)

Some Swedish stuff (unsurprisingly):

This is a very colourful bird indeed, the Swedish Coastguard CASA. We had three, but one of them crashed with all hands lost due to catastrophic wing spar failure despite inspections having been performed more densely than prescribed by CASA. They did change their manuals after this crash, though, but the two remaining aircraft were quickly replaced by Dash 400's anyway.

This Mustang is unusual in that its camouflaged. Most Swedish Mustangs were not, but a few exceptions did exist.

Saving the favourites to last:

There were three very well built Hasegawa Drakens. This first one is unusual as it's combining the classic blue/green camouflage with larger roundels but also low contrast black numbers. I don't know if it's a whif in disguise, but there wasn't any note about it, and the documentation on how Drakens were painted is readily available, so I don't know. It's kind of nice though..
As it's a J35J (Sidewinders up front is the giveaway), it's not entirely impossible that this was a real life test painting before they went light grey, however.

In particular, look at the Rb27/AIM-26 missile under the outer wing. Resin/etch stuff. Dead expensive and very well built and painted indeed.

Next one up, a more "classic" J35F:

No under-intake pylons and yellow numbers. The large white no's on the wings are to ease identification during peacetime exercises. They would be washed off immediately in war.

Note the glass fibre intakes, their black colouring having worn off. Very good representation! A real Draken intake below:

Very much saving the best for last: a trainer Sk35C! Those following me here will know I've been building one myself from the Stone Age Revell kit and some Heller parts, but this one is built the "correct" way, using a Hasegawa kit and the Maestro resin Sk35C modifications kit. And it's magnificent!!

That said, looking at my admittedly much more crudely painted model, the main shape is very nigh on, even if I've bashed rather thoroughly.

Lovely to see a proper build, though, but having said that, I'm even more happy with my own attempt now than I was before.

Thanks.

Always nice when one's own 'scratchbodge' looks similar enough to the more expensive options to fool even those 'in the know'..

OK! OK! I get it! You're a 'Plane bloke with simple tastes!  ;)

Great photo set, my friend, and even better to see how close your scratch-bash is to the expensive conversion!

That NMF on the Draken trainer is MAGNIFICENT!

But all the other models you've picked there are superb too. Very high standards of modelling in Sweden obviously.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.  Revelling in numptytism.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed, badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry.

Great photos, many thanks

My favourites ? The Gannet and the Mustang, but those Drakens are superb

Yep..

I do actually build some ships from time to time, and even the odd vehicle, but yes, planes are my bread and butter. It's something I inherited from my dad, methinks ;)

Same as me. I do dable in the odd bit of armour (old wargamer's habit), used to build some ships, but the size of even some of the larger scale ones beats my eyesight nowadays  :-\  Dad, being ex RN did build the odd ship or two though. If he'd still been alive I think the sheer array of what is available in that field now would have astounded him.
