Have you ever wondered how people took pictures of their models with a seamless single-color background? The secret is having a curve in whatever material you are using for a background. And I'm going to show you how to make a simple and inexpensive one.

I used to take photos of all my builds and ended up with folders full of digital shots I'd forget about. Now I pipe them into a digital frame from www.nixplay.com and just let them cycle through. It's a fun way to enjoy past projects and it reminds me of little tweaks I want to try later.

Yay, a Canon man!

Mine's an old second-hand EOS-20D. Just wish I could afford better lenses for it. Mind you, now that some money's coming my way...

What's yours?

I do that with all my builds, and post most of the pics in my build threads, hoping I don't bore you all too much.  :-\

Build pictures are  very relevant, and give a great deal of help to fellow whiffers experiencing similar problems/difficulties/opportunities.   I for one never find them boring.

As a retired teacher, I regard it as similar to asking pupils answering a maths problem to "show your working"

I agree; they're all part of it, and interesting in their own right.

For me, the single-piece backdrop is for beauty shots. The work-in-progress pictures get most of the detritus moved out of the way, so you have a chance to see what I am taking a picture of. I have been using a large blue sheet of card for the best part of two decades, as far as I remember, and I think I need to renew it as it's starting to get tatty.

Gondor's Modelling Rule Number Three: Everything will fit perfectly untill you apply glue...

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

I use my duvet cover or the carpet for my pic backgrounds.  ;D

One of the oldest practices in object photography?
Don't forget to set up proper light, though, because the object's shadows and lack of light on the background can ruin the "seamless" impression easily.
