I thought I had been cured...

Have you cleaned the surface first? Even though the parts get a double wash before curing I always give everything a wipe with more IPA before paint

I gave all the parts a wash in warm, soapy water first. The aluminium spray paint has been fine on the outside where the overspray looks very nice. It's just where I had primed the inside with Halfords Grey Plastic Primer that it's been playing up. I also don't have any IPA, although I do have white spirit.

I shall see how the trial paint areas do first, as I would really like to get this finished sooner rather than later.

Soapy water probably isn't going to do a great deal for anything other than greasy finger marks etc. What I use is a small IPA hand-spray for pre-paint cleaning of all my models, then wipe it off very quickly before it eats any primer. I never get any reaction.

The paints I have been using this evening are not reacting to anything, so I will continue with what I am doing. Somewhat disappointed that my Xtracolour Duralimum, as it was almost solid, that will get replaced with my next order to Hannants. In the meantime, their Silver is looking ok, but I think I will try the High Speed Silver as I want the finish a little brighter than it is at the moment. The engine faces are looking great, so it's just the intake trunking that is holding up the last of the fuselage going together.

I'm very suspicious of ANY Halfords paints these days!  They seem to have gone all out to make their new stuff TOTALLY different to the good old stuff.  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Evidently they changed supplier.
The Halfords paint SDS sheets used
to list James Briggs (Hycote) as the
manufacturer/supplier. As of 2024 the manufacturer/supplier is listed
as Halfords. Somehow I doubt that
Halfords set up a paint production
facility. It's more likely that they're
importing it from somewhere in bulk and having it packaged in the UK, no doubt taking advantage of some kind of loophole.
Perhaps switching to Hycote would
help.

Finding a Hycote agent is the problem really, they don't sell through High St shops, mostly industrial agents, but I've found one not too far away.

I have managed to remove the offending areas of paint by using some acetone I had just lying around. I used a cotton bud dipped into the liquid and rubbed that over the crinkled paint. Looks quite good and might even get painted later this evening. The forward fuselage is now in an open area to help dispel any residual fumes.

I have managed to get a couple of things done today on this build. I got around to sanding down the underside of three wings, they were then given a wash in warm, soapy water and scrubbed with a toothbrush to get rid of any dust and debris. They are drying at the moment and will get a spray of primer tomorrow.

I had earlier today tried out Xtracolour High Speed Silver for the air intake. That has dried to a satisfactory finish, so one of these was attached to the rear of the ducting.

A touch shiny there

The Compressor dome, not sure if that's the correct word, is just visible in the above picture, it will probably be less so once the radar/shock cone is fitted. We all know that it's there though.

But at least we have documentary evidence that should stand up in court  ;)
