No it's not made up, it was commissioned in 2021. Originally operated by the Royal Air Force but now its a joint operational unit including the Royal Navy and the British Army .
Monitoring threats from floating debris, satellites, ICBMs, surveillance and other foreign intruders.
My old unit which has a new name 600 Squadron City of London RAF Reservists based at RAF Northolt has recently had three members certified for such duties, more will follow with these duties being mandatory in the training.

On the whiffery side I have two builds that qualify for active duty as UK Space Command aircraft in the interceptor role and reconnaissance. These will be renamed and updated in due course.
The 1/72 BAC Sledge FRA-1 is based on the Lockheed SR-71B Blackbird with parts from the Su-47. It features three visible canopies with a fourth tucked in the fuselage. It doesn't have any wheels but uses skis instead currently based in Antarctica.

The second one is based around the Revell 1/200 Boeing SST, the model with the VG wings deployed. The model has been kitbashed using 1/144 spare parts. It will be modified and painted.
Photos will be posted after the modifications have taken place.
